Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking an Underwriting Associate to join its Marine team in a hybrid, full-time role. The position supports underwriting functions, including new business and renewals, and collaborates with underwriting, billing, claims, and other teams to ensure accurate policy processing.

The role emphasizes data collection, documentation, and timely responses to agent inquiries, with cross-training opportunities and potential UW authority depending on level.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of Commercial Lines/Specialty insurance experience.
• Fundamental underwriting practices, procedures, workflows, systems & tools.
• Robust product knowledge and solid business acumen.

Responsibilities

• Supports the Underwriter in new business and renewal activities.
• Account preparation: data collection/analysis and documentation.
• Helps to support the quoting and issuance cycle.
• Updates work management system statuses through the policy cycle.
• Documents all new and renewal accounts including underwriting tools and information from outside resources.
• Completes loss control orders at issuance and monitors reports.
• Handles legal notice requests as directed by the Underwriter.
• May partner with Premium Audit and Agency accounting as needed for audit transactions.
• Executes UA steps during new business and renewal issuance to ensure quality and service.
• Facilitates transfer of accounts to Process Support for issuance with detailed instructions.
