Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group seeks an Underwriting Associate for its Marine team with multiple locations, including Bloomington, MN, and Itasca, IL. This hybrid role supports underwriting workflows and cross-functional partners to drive timely quotes, issuances, and policy servicing.

The ideal candidate has an Associate’s Degree and 1–2 years in Commercial Lines or Specialty insurance, with strong analytical and organizational skills to manage data, documentation, and customer inquiries.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of Commercial Lines/Specialty insurance experience.
• Fundamental underwriting practices, procedures, workflows, systems & tools.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
• Ability to work cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

• Supports the Underwriter in new business and renewal activities.
• Account preparation: data collection and documentation.
• Assists with quoting and issuance cycle.
• Updates work management system statuses throughout the policy lifecycle.
• Documents all new and renewal accounts including underwriting tools per guidelines.
• Completes loss control ordering form at issuance and monitors reports.
• Handles requests from legal notices as directed by the Underwriter.
• May partner with Premium Audit and Agency accounting for audit transactions.
• Executes UA steps to ensure quality and service standards.
• Facilitates transfer of accounts to Process Support for issuance and updates statuses.
• Maintains communication to ensure outstanding items are handled timely.
• Serves as primary service contact to improve customer experience.
