The Northern Service Manager directs field and shop maintenance operations across all assigned regional ports. This role oversees field technicians and shop mechanics, manages preventive maintenance schedules, and coordinates cross-departmental logistics with parts and operations teams to ensure high repair quality, schedule compliance, and operational efficiency. These activities are to be carried out according to proper marine repair and safety practices .
Primary Responsibilities:
Field & Shop Operations Management: Supervise technician repair efforts across all regional ports and oversee shop mechanics during shoulder-season and winter maintenance cycles.
Maintenance Planning & Delivery: Oversee RSC maintenance plans, build weekly maintenance schedules, and ensure vessels are fully prepared for launch in alignment with established timelines.
Quality Assurance & Technical Support: Enforce strict repair quality standards in the field, provide technical mentorship to junior staff, and handle escalated service support calls.
Parts & Supply Chain Coordination: Act as the primary liaison between regional/local technicians and the parts department to ensure accurate order processing and timely port delivery.
Workforce & On-Call Scheduling: Establish weekend on-call coverage rotations and monitor overtime for local and mobile technicians to manage labor costs effectively.
Communication: Facilitate clear, cross-channel communication regarding service issues to ensure leadership, facility management, and field staff remain informed.
General Duties: Perform additional operational and supervisory duties as required to support regional goals.
Safety & Compliance: Assist the Director, Fleet Operations with leading the service groups workplace safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with applicable U.S. Coast Guard, OSHA, environmental, and local regulatory requirements. In collaboration with Human Resources, facilitate and monitor safety policies, procedures, and training programs
Required Skills & Abilities:
Basic understanding of or ability to quickly learn the equipment and facilities to be maintained
Ability to maintain basic records and warranties
Ability to understand written directions in manuals and on manufacturer websites
Proficient with Mac applications as required to complete and maintain records
Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facilities
Must be able to access all parts of the company equipment
