As an exclusive yachting club, we provide private and memorable outings across 35+ stunning harbors. With our expanding footprint, we are seeking a leader to oversee our Yacht Shop operations in Stonington, CT. The Shop Manager oversees specialized department coordinators across trade disciplines, conducts fleet quality inspections, and oversees project execution to ensure shop work meets high quality standards and aligns with launch schedules.
Primary Responsibilities:
Trade Department Leadership: Supervise department coordinators across trades, including Carpentry, Upholstery, Paint, Fiberglass, Electrical, and Varnish
Vessel Inspection & Scope Planning: Conduct thorough vessel inspections to establish comprehensive winter worklists and integrate active punch-list items
In-Season Fleet Quality Surveys: Travel to in-season vessel locations to survey conditions, identify quality deficiencies, and scope upcoming shoulder and winter maintenance projects
Project Management & Scheduling: Direct project execution and workflow to ensure all vessel work strictly adheres to master completion schedules
Service Coordination: Collaborate directly with the Northern Service Manager to optimize the sequence of operations for vessels undergoing shop repairs
Quality Assurance & Final Delivery: Enforce strict quality control standards to ensure all shop projects are completed to specification prior to release
Safety & Compliance: Lead by example in all safety practices by consistently following and enforcing company safety standards, ensuring employees are properly trained, addressing unsafe behaviors or conditions promptly, and fostering a culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility
General Duties: Perform additional operational and supervisory responsibilities as assigned to support shop productivity
Education and Experience:
Minimum three years management experience preferably in a boat yard or marina
Minimum seven years of experience within the marine industry or equivalent trade experience
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment
Demonstrated leadership ability
Experience working in an environment where attention to detail and safety were preeminent
Physical Job Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs
Must to able to climb ladders and scaffolding when necessary
Must be able to maneuver about vessels, both on and off the water
Must be able to wear a respirator and other PPE as required
Must be able to kneel, crouch, and reach overhead frequently
Employees will be subject to environments where VOC chemicals (e.g., epoxy, urethane) are present.
