Job summary

Marine Components in Loudon, TN is seeking a Marine Seating Development Specialist to design, prototype, and launch innovative seating and upholstery products. You will develop patterns, foam designs, and manufacturing documentation, collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, Product Development, suppliers, and customers.

The role emphasizes hands-on upholstery and pattern development, CAD drawings, and ensuring products are manufacturable, cost-effective, and high quality through all stages

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred.
  • Experience developing upholstery patterns, sewn products, soft goods.
  • Strong understanding of upholstery construction methods and materials.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and production requirements.
  • Experience with CAD software and pattern development systems.
  • Familiarity with CNC cutting systems, nesting software, or CAM processes.
  • Experience designing or developing foam products and seating systems.
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge and supplier collaboration experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop upholstery patterns for seating systems, cushions, backrests, and components.
  • Create/modify patterns for vinyl, fabric, foam, backing materials and related components.
  • Design, construct, and evaluate prototype seating and upholstery assemblies.
  • Develop foam shapes, templates, and support components meeting design and manufacturing needs.
  • Create and maintain CAD drawings, templates and production documentation.
  • Generate and maintain files for CNC cutting equipment and pattern development.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support new product launches through prototypes, validation, and production trials.
  • Evaluate products for fit, finish, durability, comfort, quality and manufacturability.
  • Maintain records, revisions, pattern libraries, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate with suppliers regarding fabrics, vinyl, foam, and hardware.
  • Troubleshoot product, pattern, and manufacturing issues; propose solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews, product evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
