Job summary

Boston Ship Repair is seeking skilled Outside Machinists to repair, maintain, and overhaul shipboard machinery on high-profile vessels. This role offers a hands-on environment in fast-paced settings, with opportunities to work both in machine shops and on ships.

Responsibilities include setting up lathes and grinders, reading blueprints, inspecting parts with precision tools, and ensuring safety protocols in shipyard and field conditions. 3–5 years of relevant experience preferred.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of marine, industrial, or shipyard mechanic experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and torque wrench applications.
• Skilled with hand tools, measuring instruments, and alignment equipment.
• Ability to work from technical drawings and follow detailed instructions.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and follow safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate machine shop equipment such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders to fabricate and repair precision components.
• Machine parts to tight tolerances using manual equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job specifications.
• Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Select proper tooling, materials, speeds, and feeds for machining operations.
• Support mechanical work including installation, maintenance, and repair of pumps, motors, compressors, and related equipment when machining work is not required.
• Assist with disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of mechanical systems and components.
• Perform alignments and basic troubleshooting of mechanical equipment.
• Maintain a safe work environment in both machine shop and field settings.
