Job summary

BlueCore Energy, based in Long Beach, designs and builds floating SMRs. As a Nuclear Mechanical Engineer, you will own components for the primary system from concept through qualification, translating thermal-hydraulic requirements into mechanical designs and generating NX CAD models and drawings.

You will run test campaigns, gather data, qualify components to nuclear codes, and work with vendors for nuclear-grade fabrication, iterating designs based on test results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
• 3+ years of mechanical design experience from concept through fabrication.
• Hands-on CAD with GD&T.
• Experience planning hardware test campaigns.
• Familiarity with ASME Section III or nuclear standards.
• Comfort working with vendors to obtain nuclear-grade hardware.
• Pragmatic, low-ego approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design of primary system and reactor internals from concept to detailed design.
• Translate thermal-hydraulics analysis into component specifications and design decisions.
• Create and maintain NX CAD models and fabrication drawings with GD&T.
• Plan and run experimental test campaigns to qualify designs.
• Qualify components to nuclear codes and standards (ASME III, etc.).
• Engage vendors for nuclear-grade fabrication and drive RFQ to inspection.
• Design for marine and radiological environments: vibration, corrosion, radiation, tight spaces.
• Lead root-cause investigations and iterate designs based on results.
