Job summary

BlueCore Energy in Long Beach, CA seeks a Nuclear Mechanical Engineer to own components for the primary system and reactor internals from concept through qualification.

You will translate thermal-hydraulic needs into mechanical designs, specify hardware, and produce NX CAD models and fabrication drawings. Collaborate with vendors and vendors to achieve nuclear-grade fabrication in a marine environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of mechanical design experience, from concept through fabrication.
• Hands-on CAD and drawing generation, including GD&T.
• Experience planning hardware test campaigns, from test plan to data acquisition and reporting.
• Familiarity with nuclear codes and standards such as ASME Section III.
• Comfort working with vendors to fabricate nuclear-grade hardware.
• Pragmatic, curious, low-ego problem-solving approach.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design of primary system and reactor internal components, from concept through detailed design.
• Translate thermal-hydraulics analysis into component specifications and design decisions.
• Build and maintain NX CAD models and drawings for fabrication, including GD&T call-outs.
• Plan and run experimental test campaigns to qualify designs, with data acquisition and reporting.
• Qualify components to nuclear codes and standards (ASME Section III).
• Engage and manage vendors for nuclear-grade fabrication from RFQ to inspection.
• Design for marine and radiological environments: vibration, corrosion, radiation, tight space.
• Drive root-cause investigations and iterate designs accordingly.
