Job Summary:
The Electrical Specialist & Engine Rigger is responsible for installing, connecting, and testing electrical systems, power sources, and propulsion systems on recreational marine vessels. This role includes rigging engines, integrating controls and gauges, and ensuring systems meet quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate brings a combination of mechanical and electrical aptitude specific to the marine environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Install and wire electrical components such as batteries, switches, circuit breakers, navigation systems, lighting, and audio systems according to schematics and marine electrical codes.
Rig outboard engines, including controls, fuel systems, steering, and diagnostics setup, ensuring compatibility with vessel specifications.
Test and troubleshoot electrical and engine systems, perform calibrations, and verify full functionality before final inspection.
Collaborate with engineering and quality control to ensure builds align with production drawings, specifications, and compliance standards (e.g., ABYC, NMMA).
Maintain organized workstations, follow safety procedures, and contribute to continuous improvement in installation processes and product quality.
Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and engine manuals.
Strong understanding of 12V and 24V DC electrical systems; familiarity with AC shore power systems is a plus.
Experience with rigging and programming outboard motors (e.g., Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda) including throttle and shift integration.
Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, multimeters, and diagnostic software relevant to marine applications.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks while standing or kneeling for extended periods.
Knowledge of marine-specific standards such as ABYC, USCG regulations, and best practices in corrosion prevention and waterproofing.
Strong attention to detail, self-motivated, and able to work independently or within a team environment.
