Job summary

Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant coatings inspection, quality assurance, marine coatings, or related industry experience.
  • Current AMPP/NACE CIP Level 1 or higher certification, or SSPC NBPI qualification.
  • Knowledge of marine or industrial surface preparation and protective coating processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret project specifications, work packages, coating product data sheets, and quality requirements.
  • Experience using common coating inspection instruments and gauges.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good computer skills and ability to accurately prepare and maintain electronic inspection documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality assurance inspections of marine and industrial surface preparation and protective coating activities.
  • Inspect abrasive blasting, mechanical surface preparation, waterjetting, and other surface preparation activities as applicable to assigned projects.
  • Verify surface cleanliness, surface profile, environmental conditions, coating application, and other quality requirements in accordance with project specifications.
  • Inspect primers, intermediate coats, finish coats, nonskid systems, and other protective coating applications as required.
  • Use appropriate inspection instruments and gauges to verify environmental conditions, surface profile, wet film thickness, dry film thickness, and other required measurements.
  • Verify coating materials, batch numbers, shelf life, mixing, thinning, induction times, pot life, and application requirements when applicable.
  • Review project specifications, work packages, coating manufacturer product data sheets, and applicable quality requirements.
  • Document inspection results accurately and maintain complete quality records.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports, deficiency reports, and other required QA documentation.
  • Identify nonconforming work and communicate quality concerns promptly to supervision and project leadership.
  • Coordinate with production personnel to ensure deficiencies are corrected and reinspected as required.
  • Maintain calibration and verification records for inspection equipment and ensure instruments are in proper working condition.
