Job summary

Norwalk Board of Education is seeking a position to teach student musicians and guard members in music and marching techniques, preparing them for competitions and performances.

You will motivate student performers to develop an appreciation of the arts and work closely with the band director on scheduling, facilities, and program standards. A collaborative environment with staff, students, and parents is emphasized.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assesses students' skills and reports to the band director with any issues.
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes rehearsal time for individual and ensemble development.
  • Works with the band director scheduling facilities for practices and competitions.
  • Supervises and assigns duties to assistant coaches as necessary.
  • Coaches and instructs members, individually or in groups, regarding rules, equipment, and techniques of the competitive arts.
  • Observes members during practice and competition to determine needs for improvement.
  • Maintains standards of pupil behavior and proper supervision at all times.
  • Follows procedures for handling injuries and emergencies.
  • Conferences with the director of bands regarding student performance.
  • Complies with state, regional, and district regulations for the band program.
  • Models sports-like behavior and professional conduct toward members, judges, and spectators.
  • Care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
