Job summary

Norwalk Community School District in Norwalk, IA, is seeking an HS Show Band Sponsor. The position reports to the Activities Director and will oversee the show band program alongside the athletics/activities offerings.

You will instruct athletes, develop practice plans, schedule sessions, supervise during games and travel, promote athletics, communicate with parents, ensure eligibility, and uphold district safety and policies.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Instructs athletes on techniques, rules and safety practices.
• Develops and organizes practice programs.
• Schedules and conducts practices according to schedules.
• Supervises athletes from start to finish, tracking locations.
• Supervises athletes on buses during trips.
• Promotes the Norwalk Athletics/Activities program.
• Sets an example of ethical conduct and supports officials.
• Fosters sportsmanship and pride in team, school, and community.
• Promotes healthy lifestyle among student athletes.
• Assists the activities director to maintain eligibility lists.
• Ensures all required documentation and medical exams are completed.
• Communicates with parents regarding team rules and guidelines.
• Knows and enforces Activities Department rules.
• Adheres to safety laws and district policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Activities Director.

Reports to - ActivitiesDirector

Essential Performance Responsibilities

• Instructs athletes regarding techniques, rules and safety practices of the sport
• Develops and organizes practice program
• Schedules and conducts practices according to agreed-upon schedules
• Supervises athletes from the scheduled beginning of the practice or game until the last athlete leaves, knowing where all participants are at all times
• Supervises athletes on buses on trips to other schools
• Promotes the entire Norwalk Athletics/Activities program
• Sets an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct including respecting and supporting contest officials
• Fosters among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community
• Promotes a healthy lifestyle to student athletes
• Assists the activities director to ensure that lists of all players eligible for athletic contests are prepared and maintained under the rules of Norwalk CSD
• Ensures that all athletes have completed and submitted all required documentation, including medical insurance coverage form and have undergone and passed any required medical examinations before the regular practice season begins
• Communicates with parents in regards to team rules and athletic department guidelines
• Knows and understands the Norwalk Activities Department rules and regulations
• Adheres to all safety laws and district policies
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Activities Director

Qualifications Profile

• Previous experience in jazz band and/or instrumental music required.

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements vary by individual job assignment but requires a minimum of the following physical requirements: Walking, standing, bending, carrying, climbing, lifting minimum of 20 pounds, driving, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, and stooping.
