Job summary

The Mapping Technician 3 at the New York State Department of Transportation, Office of Design, performs digital photogrammetry, aerial imagery acquisition, and UAS operations to support mapping and infrastructure projects in New York.

Responsibilities include compiling mapping data, reviewing digital terrain models, managing aerial photography contracts, and producing orthoimagery and 3D models.

Qualifications

• Five years of technical mapping or digital photogrammetry experience.
• Bachelor's degree with 15 credits in remote sensing, GIS, CAD, or UAS mapping.
• Experience with photogrammetric workstations and GIS/CAD tools.
• Ability to manage project schedules and technical specifications.

Job description

The Mapping Technician 3 works in the New York State Department of Transportation's Office of Design, performing digital photogrammetry, aerial imagery acquisition, and UAS (drone) operations to support mapping and infrastructure projects. The role involves compiling mapping data, reviewing digital terrain models, managing aerial photography contracts, and operating uncrewed aerial systems to create orthoimagery and 3D models.

Key qualifications:

• Five years of technical experience in mapping or digital photogrammetry, or a bachelor's degree with 15 semester credit hours in remote sensing, GIS, CADD, UAS mapping, cartography, LiDAR, surveying,
• Remote pilot certificate with small UAS rating preferred at hire or by end of probation
• Experience using digital photogrammetric workstations and GIS/CAD tools for high-accuracy base mapping
• Ability to manage project schedules, technical requirements, and written specifications
• Vision test including near vision, far vision, and stereo vision required prior to appointment
