Job Title: Map Program System Engineer Remote

Labor Category: Programmer 3

Location: 100% Remote

Job Type: Contract

Work schedule: Normal business hours Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week (excluding mandatory unpaid meal break after 6 hrs of work).

Duration: 12 Months

Rate: $70 to $80 per hour

Job Description / Justification:

The goal of this project is to create a digital hub for families to learn about child care options and find suitable providers for children aged 5 and below. The hub will also support child care providers by sharing information on starting and maintaining services for New Yorkers. Features may include a detailed screening process for parents, referral sections, information about available childcare services, and a unified map/provider services locator.

The System Engineer will support the entire lifecycle of the application, working with internal and external stakeholders.

SCOPE OF SERVICES:

The System Engineer, a strategic team member, ensures the digital Hub functions smoothly across systems and platforms. This role reports to the Office of Data Analytics (ODA) DevOps and collaborates with the Mayor’s Office Innovation Team to enhance child care access for New Yorkers. The Engineer will coordinate infrastructure details from design through testing and deployment.

TASKS:

1. Design, develop, and test repository changes.
2. Set up and maintain cloud-based servers and services.
3. Support development teams with production management input for new application builds.
4. Create scalable data pipeline architecture based on best practices.
5. Coordinate execution of break fixes in all environments.
6. Resolve issues by engaging stakeholders like OTI and vendors.
7. Ensure deliverables meet requirements and match server specifications.
8. Support testing and deployment by monitoring servers and providing feedback.
9. Maintain system documentation.
10. Collaborate with teams to translate data requirements into technical solutions.
11. Perform special projects as assigned.

MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 8 years of experience with Linux OS servers, iPlanet Web Servers, IBM MDM/IIS, Oracle WebLogic, Portal Servers, Windows Servers (on-prem and cloud).
• At least 8 years of experience in SQL.
• Strong expertise in cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure.
• Proficiency in scripting (Ant, Maven, Shell) for configuration, build, deployment, and routine tasks.
• Experience with SSO configuration using SiteMinder with iPlanet/Oracle WebLogic Servers.

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• Experience with Oracle 19c, AWS RDS/MySQL, or database appliances.
• Understanding of scalable application design principles.
• Experience with SOA and RESTful web services.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
