Job summary

The Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland announces a full-time Manuscripts Processor for the Cleveland Jewish Archives. This grant-funded role supports a four-year initiative to process and digitize local Jewish history collections.

Under the Curator for Jewish History, you will accession, inventory, describe, and preserve manuscripts, create finding aids, and maintain donor relationships. Travel and occasional after-hours work may be required.

Qualifications

• Master’s MLIS with archival processing emphasis; history degree acceptable.
• Two years archival processing experience.
• Strong analytical, organizational, project and time management skills.
• Active membership in professional associations or willingness to join.
• Proactive, flexible and collaborative in achieving goals.
• Proficiency with IT in a special collections library context.
• Experience with legal/ethical standards for archives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; strong interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Process and preserve collections per professional standards (DACS/Encoding).
• Describe collections in finding aids and online finding aids.
• Maintain confidentiality, donor records, and archival stewardship.
• Collaborate with Archives Team on progress and workflow needs.
• Develop and implement policies and standards for the archives.
• Occasional travel and evening/weekend hours as necessary.
