Sunstar Engineering Americas Inc. is seeking a QC Lab Tech in Ohio to perform quality testing on raw materials, in-process batches, finished products, and customer samples in a timely manner.

You will prepare samples, identify issues, document results in LIMS/MS365, assist with calibration and validation, label containers, support continuous improvement, and maintain a safe, organized lab.

Qualifications

  • Associated Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or related field with two years of lab experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude with great math and reading skills, proven written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to learn operation of complicated laboratory equipment
  • Highly detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding visual and physical inspection of product.
  • Ability to concentrate and remain alert while working on highly repetitive tasks.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently with little supervision and ability to operate efficiently on a team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft software Products.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and test samples of finished products and/or raw materials following approved instructions.
  • Identify problems and notify supervisor with suggested countermeasures.
  • Act as first line problem solver for non-standard results and document findings.
  • Ensure equipment and instruments are clean, calibrated, and in good working order.
  • Support instrument validation/calibration activities and maintain libraries.
  • Document test results in Sunstar LIMS portal and MS365 apps.
  • Create COA documentation from LMS/test data.
  • Label finished goods containers as part of QC.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvements and participate in CI projects.
  • Maintain a clean, organized lab environment and adhere to safety policies.

Description

The QC Lab Tech is responsible for performing quality testing on raw materials, in-process batches, finished product, and/or customer samples in a timely manner. The QC Lab Tech is essential in ensuring testing meets specified requirements and for keeping laboratory testing up to date.

  • Prepare and/or test samples of finished products and/or raw materials following approved work instruction or experimental test parameters.
  • Identify problems, issues, and concerns. Notify appropriate personnel and provide suggestions and countermeasures to your direct supervisor.
  • Act as first line problem solver for non-standard results. This includes gathering information from the production floor, lab or other areas; the communication to supervisor and/or quality engineers; carrying out any actions to clarify the situation to aid in the determination of the optimal path forward.
  • Ensure equipment and/or instruments are clean and in good working order before and after use. Recognize instrumentation that requires calibration and is in calibration prior to use.
  • Support instrument validation/calibration activities and maintain instrumentation libraries as assigned.
  • Clearly documents test results in Sunstar Engineering Americas LIMS portal and/or MS365 applications.
  • Using LMS data to create COA documentation for customer.
  • Labeling finished good containers as part of QC completion process.
  • Support validation of APQP/Development Projects pertaining to new materials, test methodologies and/or instrumentation.
  • Identify problems, issues and concerns and effectively communicates in a timely manner to direct supervisor
  • Create product and sample labels per work instructions to ensure proper material identification and hazardous communication (HAZCOM)
  • Identifies opportunities continuous improvements. Participates/leads Continuous Improvement projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as required to operate a successful, organized Quality Laboratory.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment according to the standards to promote good chemical hygiene, avoid cross-contamination, ensure ready-to-use workplaces, eliminate generation of excess waste and prevent to creation of safety hazards.

This position is also required to perform other related duties as assigned by the Lab Supervisor.

The position requires an individual to stand for extended periods of time, frequently lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull carts up to 1,200 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Safety requirements for this position are safety glasses and steel-toed work boots.
