Job summary

Third Coast in Pearland, TX is seeking a Lab Tech I to perform laboratory tests and QC duties for raw materials, in-process, and finished products. You will operate standard lab equipment, prepare solutions, and maintain accurate records in LIMS.

The role requires up-to-date knowledge in chemistry, accuracy with measurements, and the ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift. Safety and quality standards are emphasized in daily tasks.

Qualifications

• 2 years of college level coursework in Chemistry or related sciences required.
• BS in Chemistry or Biochemistry preferred.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Internet and basic computer software required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanness and tidiness of the lab area.
• Clean and sterilize lab equipment including glassware.
• Perform conversions using significant figures.
• Operate basic lab equipment (balances, ovens/furnaces, pH meter, conductivity meter, refractive index, turbidity meter, centrifuge, titration stands, GC, FTIR, UV-Vis, IC).
• Check COAs for incoming raw materials.
• Input data into LIMS and generate COA when needed.
• Conduct basic tests on materials (density, specific gravity, viscosities, flash points, pH, color, titrations).
• Follow industry standards (ASTM, SAE, ISO, DMV, etc.).
• Assist communication with Reaction group, Blending and Production, Plant support, and transport drivers for bulk shipping.
• Adhere to QA/QC program (calibration verifications, SQC, round robin, ILU).
• Prepare chemical solutions and maintain sample retention/disposal protocol.
• Learn and follow Third Coast quality and safety policies; participate in lab safety processes.
• Dispose of expired samples properly.
• Exhibit and practice the Third Coast Way behaviors.

Job description

Position Summary

Under the direction of the QC Supervisor, the Lab Tech I’s main task is to perform laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical properties for such purposes as quality control on raw or bulk materials and finished product, and process control by performing the following duties:

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Maintain the cleanness and tidiness of the office area and lab area.
• Cleans and sterilizes lab equipment including glassware.
• Perform mathematical conversions and correctly use significant figures.
• Operate basic laboratory equipment such as balances, , ovens/furnaces, pH meter, conductivity meter, Refractive Index meter, turbidity meter, centrifuge, titration stands, GC, FTIR, UVVis., IC, FTIR.
• Checking the COAs for incoming raw materials.
• Input sample information and testing results into LIMS. Generate COA when necessary.
• Independently perform the basic testing items on raw material, process samples, or finished goods such as density, specific gravity, kinematic viscosity, dynamic viscosity, flash points, pH, alkalinity, color, titrations, and other physical properties.
• Conformation to accepted industry standards including ASTM, SAE, ISO, DMV, and other customer specific requirements.
• Also, assist in communication with Reaction group, Blending and Production, Plant support, and transport drivers for bulk shipping.
• Adhering to the QA/QC program such as calibration verifications, SQCs, round robin study or ILU study.
• Prepares chemical solutions to standard formulas. Also, help for maintaining sample retention / disposal protocol.
• Learn and follow Third Coast quality policy and Safety Policy and related procedures. Participate in lab safety processes and contribute to the safe operations in lab.
• Dispose of expired samples into appropriate waste containers.
• Exhibits and practices the Third Coast Way fundamental behaviors

Knowledge and Skills:

• 2 years of college level course work in Chemistry or related Sciences required.
• B.S. in Chemistry or Biochemistry preferred.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, internet, and other basic computer software programming required

Work Experience:

• 01 year of related laboratory experience and/or training.

Schedule:

• This position operates on a 12hour rotating shift schedule with coverage required 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Day Shift: 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
• Night Shift: 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM

Skills and Competencies:

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as Safety rules, standard operating procedures, instrument manuals, and industry methods (English). Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively before groups of team members (English).
• Ability to do mathematics related to laboratory methodology calculations, including a scientific calculator.
• A valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

• The physical demands required are to sit, stand, talk, and hear, smell, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift items.
• While performing the duties of this job, the team member works near moving mechanical parts exposed to fumes, and other chemicals which will require specific PPE and safety precautions.
