We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry.

Scope
Under minimal supervision, the Manufacturing Project Manager plays an essential leadership role in overseeing complex fabrication and construction projects from concept to completion. This position combines project management expertise with client management leadership, ensuring successful execution while driving continuous improvement, team development, and strategic alignment with company goals. This role requires a high degree of independence, strong project management skills, and a practical understanding of technical fabrication. The Manufacturing Project Manager identifies project and fabrication issues, coordinates appropriate internal and external resources, drives accountability, and ensures issues are followed through to resolution. The Manufacturing Project Manager serves as the primary client liaison, leads cross‑functional teams, mentors staff, and supports business development and operational excellence across Smyth Industries. Support and adhere to Smyth Industries’ Policies and Procedures, Safety Compliance, and Values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Project Management
- Lead multiple manufacturing projects from conception through completion, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget adherence
- Lead internal project handoff and startup processes, ensuring scope, contractual requirements, exclusions, assumptions, schedule, budget, procurement requirements, technical requirements, and outstanding questions are clearly understood by the project team
- Develop project plans, monitor progress, manage risks, and maintain comprehensive documentation
- Lead project kickoff meetings and coordinate execution plans with clients and internal teams
- Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and other departments to identify and resolve technical, material, schedule, and constructability issues
- Coordinate and drive project technical deliverables including drawings, submittals, RFIs, reports, engineering calculations, material requirements, and other project documentation
- Identify missing, conflicting, or incomplete project information and ensure questions are communicated to the appropriate internal or external party
- Monitor project financial performance including budgets, committed costs, labor, material costs, change orders, projected cost to complete, billing milestones, and overall project performance
- Identify, document, communicate, and manage changes to project scope, schedule, or cost and ensure appropriate client authorization is obtained when required
- Monitor construction and fabrication activities for compliance with safety, quality, project requirements, plans, specifications, and applicable standards
- Maintain accurate and current project records including correspondence, RFIs, submittals, approvals, change documentation, schedules, meeting notes, action items, and other project documentation
- Maintain effective communication with clients, internal teams, and project stakeholders regarding project status, priorities, risks, outstanding items, and required decisions
- Resolve conflicts and negotiate solutions in a timely and professional manner
- Translate client feedback into actionable improvements and ensure client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle
- Lead project closeout activities and ensure outstanding deliverables, documentation, client requirements, change orders, billing coordination, and remaining action items are completed
Client Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle
- Conduct regular client check‑ins and status updates
- Maintain clear documentation of client expectations, requirements, priorities, and decisions
- Anticipate client needs and proactively address concerns impacting scope, schedule, cost, quality, or project execution
- Coordinate client site visits, inspections, and milestone reviews
- Facilitate resolution of client issues including technical concerns, scheduling conflicts, scope changes, and budget adjustments
- Mentor staff on effective client communication, email etiquette, meeting facilitation, and conflict resolution
- Collaborate with internal teams to translate client feedback into actionable improvements
- Lead post‑project client debriefs to gather insights and improve future engagements
- Promote a client‑centric culture focused on responsiveness, accountability, and relationship‑building
Team Leadership & Development
- Mentor and coach team members
- Provide regular feedback and performance evaluations
- Support professional development through training, goal setting, and career growth initiatives
- Manage administrative functions for direct reports including time tracking, PTO, and attendance
- Lead performance conversations and support staff in resolving work‑related challenges
Business Development & Marketing
- Participate in marketing and business development activities including networking, proposal development, and client engagement
- Support proposal development by reviewing project scope, technical requirements, schedules, assumptions, exclusions, and execution considerations
- Identify questions or information required from clients prior to project handoff
- Develop strategic client account plans to support long‑term growth and repeat business
- Identify opportunities to expand services based on client needs and feedback
- Act as a brand ambassador promoting diversity, inclusion, and company values
Vendor & Supplier Coordination
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Coordinate vendor, supplier, and subcontractor requirements with project scope, schedule, quality, and technical requirements
- Monitor vendor performance and address issues related to delivery, quality, or compliance
- Coordinate with Purchasing and other appropriate departments to support vendor and supplier selection, qualification, procurement, and cost‑control activities
- Maintain documentation of vendor communications, agreements, and performance metrics
Organizational & Continuous Improvement
- Support the development and implementation of project management methodologies, tools, processes, and standards
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives and integrate client feedback into operational processes
- Promote collaboration and shared accountability across departments and project teams
- Identify lessons learned, recurring project challenges, and opportunities for improvement and communicate them to appropriate leadership and departments
- Track and report client satisfaction metrics as part of project closeout procedures
Minimum Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience in manufacturing, mechanical, or water infrastructure industries, with ten or more years preferred
- Five or more years of project management experience, with ten or more years preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred; equivalent technical and managerial experience accepted
- Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code is a plus
- Arizona Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
- Proven experience in client‑facing roles such as account management or business development
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage expectations and resolve conflicts
- Ability to pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check
- Valid driver’s license and ability to legally operate a company vehicle
- Ability to pass pre‑employment drug screening
- Ability to physically perform required duties including standing, walking, bending, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, squatting, climbing ladders, working outdoors, exposure to weather, dust, and equipment noise, and standing for prolonged periods
- Ability to wear company‑supplied Personal Protective Equipment
- Ability to work safely around industrial equipment
- Ability to work Monday through Thursday, 10‑hour shifts between 5:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with occasional Friday or Saturday work as business needs require
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP certification is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of water and reclamation construction
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
