Job summary

Cleaver-Brooks Manufacturing Engineer I role supports improving transactional and manufacturing processes, learning APQP and lean activities to reduce waste and improve safety, quality, and cost. You will gather data, update documents, and assist with process readiness and capital projects.

This entry-level position emphasizes documentation, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on shop floor exposure with daily Gemba participation and basic problem-solving under guidance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• Foundational exposure to APQP concepts and structured launch processes.
• Lean, TPS, or Six Sigma principles.
• CAD modeling and drafting knowledge.
• Basic troubleshooting and process improvement methods.
• ERP/MRP systems and production documentation.
• Manufacturing codes (ASME BPVC, ASME SA249, ASME B31, UL/ISO/JIS) with ability to learn quickly.
• Strong organization, planning, and analytical problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and maintaining APQP documentation (process flows, control plans, PFMEAs, change records).
• Support preparation of engineering change docs, basic risk assessments, routing for approvals.
• Gather data and coordinate communications across engineering, quality, operations and supply chain.
• Participate in cross-functional reviews and daily Gemba activities.
• Identify process waste and participate in Lean activities (value stream mapping, Kaizen).
• Support capital project data collection and simple cost-benefit inputs.
• Track cost savings for improvement and capital projects using auditable methods.
• Design and document manufacturing processes, work instructions, and SOPs.
• Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for quality and throughput issues.
• Develop tooling, fixtures, jigs, and automation to improve safety and efficiency.
• Support new product introduction by documenting manufacturability and readiness tasks.
• Perform basic statistical data collection, capability studies, and workflow observations.
• Assist equipment specification development, installation planning, validation, and monitoring.
• Support safety initiatives by identifying hazards and implementing controls per EHS.
