Job summary

First Solar, Inc. is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for the Finishing area in Gaffney, SC to install and qualify new equipment, troubleshoot production issues, and drive process improvements to meet throughput, yield and product performance goals.

You will apply statistics, metrology, DOE, SPC and DMAIC, design experiments, collect and analyze data, and prepare documentation while training other technicians. Some travel may be required, including international.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree with 3+ years First Solar technical experience, or 6+ years manufacturing experience.
• Bachelor's/Master's/PhD in engineering with no experience required; combination with experience preferred.
• Alternative: Journeyman certification in a relevant discipline with 5+ years industry experience at Journeyman level or 10+ years as a highly skilled technician/specialist.
• Skills and experience in peer training/mentorship and basic data analysis are required in lieu of degree requirements.

Responsibilities

• Solve day-to-day production, equipment, and process problems.
• Install and qualify new equipment.
• Maintain gauges.
• Design and execute planned process experiments, collect and analyze data, and report results.
• Perform data collection relating to daily equipment performance and product performance.
• Interface with internal associates and supplier representatives to complete projects.
• Maintain effective communication with production associates and manufacturing engineers.
• Develop and provide training to engineering technicians and production staff.
• Identify and implement yield and product performance improvements.
• Develop and maintain drawings, process specifications, SOPs, and control plans.
• Adhere to all safety procedures and housekeeping standards.
• Domestic and international travel as required.
