Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a 2nd Shift Supervisor to oversee recycling processes, baling operations, and ensure outbound materials meet broker or mill standards. Responsibilities include supervising production, training operators, coordinating shift schedules, and maintaining safety and quality across the plant.

The role requires two to five years in manufacturing, HS diploma, ability to lift up to 45 pounds, and adapting to a non-climate-controlled environment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and housekeeping; comply with SOPs and JHAs.
• Complete shift paperwork and coordinate with Operations Manager.

Job description

Oversee the 2nd Shift processes and baling of incoming recycling materials so that outbound recycling materials are acceptable for sale to various brokers or mills. Assign and oversee execution of production, safety, and housekeeping duties. Actively participate in and encourage employee involvement in the Health and Safety Programs of Smurfit Westrock.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

• Supervise production operations in accordance with plant policies and procedures for the plant.
• Train and coach operators.
• Conduct employee performance counseling.
• Responsible for shift schedule to include: workstation assignments, rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignment, back-up for absent employees, and temporary labor.
• Coordinate production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers.
• Coordinate with Operations Manager for appropriate staffing levels.
• Schedule and conduct shift meetings.
• Responsible for meeting shift production goals.
• Responsible for quality control. Make adjustments as necessary during shift to produce product within specifications. Reject product outside of specifications.
• Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs).
• Communicate with other Shift Supervisors and the Operations Manager.
• Ensure a clean and safe work area.
• Complete shift paperwork.
• Assist in production as necessary.
• Authorization Training in the following: Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Confined Space, Aerial, Loader, Bobcat, Forklift, and balers. (Will be trained in-house)
• Maintain and aid the plant’s preventative maintenance program.

Other duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed:

• Knowledge of the recycling processes, procedures, and machinery. This is normally acquired through two to five years of manufacturing experience.
• Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.
• Working conditions include a non-climate-controlled environment.
• Communication with diverse staff.
• Work involves lifting materials and products to 45 pounds.
• Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment including but not limited to: eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hard hats
