Viracon in Owatonna, MN, offers a Manufacturing Engineering Intern position for 2027. You will work with engineers and production staff on live projects on the factory floor, gathering data and supporting improvement efforts.

This hands-on internship emphasizes lean initiatives and mentorship to build practical skills in manufacturing engineering. Eligible students are pursuing a 4-year engineering degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA and opportunities to contribute to Viracon’s glass manufacturing

Qualifications

• Pursuing a 4-year engineering degree in Manufacturing/Industrial/Mechanical Engineering.
• Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing at the time of the internship.
• GPA minimum of 3.0.
• Interest in manufacturing and hands-on engineering work.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work well with engineering, production, maintenance, and quality teams.
• Comfortable in a manufacturing environment and on the production floor.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Willingness to learn, ask questions, and take initiative.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside manufacturing engineers and production teams on real projects.
• Spend time on the manufacturing floor learning processes, equipment, and operations.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity.
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving manufacturing issues.
• Collect and analyze production data.
• Support process improvement, equipment, tooling, and layout projects.
• Assist with time studies, process documentation, and work instructions.
• Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
• Help implement engineering solutions and see projects through to completion.

About The Internship

Viracon is seeking Manufacturing Engineering Interns for 2027 who are currently pursuing an engineering degree and want a hands‑on experience in a real manufacturing environment. This internship provides hands‑on lab and production experience, mentorship from industry experts, and the opportunity to contribute to the next generation of Viracon products. Interns will work closely with engineering and production teams and spend significant time on the manufacturing floor.
