Job summary

Steffes on production floors provides hands-on technical support for Manufacturing Engineering, helping create and improve processes, work instructions, layouts, and documentation.

You will build, test, and troubleshoot tooling and fixtures, support LEAN events, and ensure quality, safety, and delivery targets are met. High school diploma and 3+ years of mechanical experience are expected, with growth opportunities and teamwork highlighted throughout the role.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • 3+ years of work experience utilizing mechanical abilities such as wiring, welding, fabricating, metal crafting, designing, etc.; exposure to manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge (Windows, email, internet, Microsoft Office).
  • Basic knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles preferred.
  • Written and verbal communication, reading, and math skills sufficient to create and interpret process documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating and maintaining manufacturing process documentation, including SOPs, SAPs and Work Instructions.
  • Participate in LEAN events such as Kaizens, Value Stream Mapping, 5S, and VAVE; gather information and follow up on action items.
  • Assist with NCRs and ECR/ECNs.
  • Support productivity projects by building, setting up, testing, and troubleshooting tooling, fixtures, and process changes on the production floor.
  • Assist with plant layouts of equipment, workflow, storage, and exterior items.
  • Assist with time and motion analysis studies.
  • Assist in fabrication and wiring of new or modified tooling, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Support manufacturing processes with troubleshooting and training.
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance procedures to ensure testing, purchasing, and receiving meet specs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and positive atmosphere with customers, suppliers, coworkers, and management.
  • May require overtime and additional responsibilities.

Position Summary Provides hands-on technical support to the Manufacturing Engineering function on the production floor. Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in creating and maintaining manufacturing process documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Standard Assembly Procedures (SAPs) and Work Instructions.
  • Participate in LEAN events such as Kaizens, Value Stream Mapping, 5S, and VAVE. Gather information, complete assigned action items, and follow up.
  • Assist with completing Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Engineering Change Requests/Notices (ECR/ECNs).
  • Support productivity improvement projects by building, setting up, testing, and troubleshooting tooling, fixtures, and process changes on the production floor.
  • Assist with plant layouts of equipment, workflow, storage, and exterior items.
  • Assist with time and motion analysis studies.
  • Assists in the fabrication and wiring of new or modified tooling, fixtures, and equipment being developed.
  • Support manufacturing processes as needed, including assisting with technical troubleshooting and training.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining quality assurance procedures to ensure testing, purchasing, and receiving are consistent with product and process specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including labeling of nonproduction parts.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating collaboratively with customers, suppliers, co-workers, and management.
  • Helps company meet its Strategic, Quality and Safety objectives.
  • may require additional responsibility and ability to work overtime hours.

Functional & Cognitive Requirements
  • This position requires walking, sitting, or standing to a significant degree.
  • Must have the ability to lift 70 pounds from floor to waist, carry 50 pounds, and push and/or pull up to 100 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to climb ladders and/or stairs.
  • Stooping, crouching, kneeling, and bending.
  • Handling, feeling, and gripping would be required for some activities.
  • Visual acuity is required to inspect work completed.
  • This role may be subject to internal and external environmental conditions.
