Job summary

Freeform is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern for Spring 2027 in Hawthorne, CA. You will join a team to scale production of high-performance metal 3D printed parts, refining processes, tooling, and CNC workflows to enable precision manufacturing at speed and scale.

This hands-on, fast-paced role is ideal for someone eager to learn and contribute to our autonomous metal 3D printing factories, bridging R&D and production.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or manufacturing engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Hands-on manufacturing or build experience from internships or engineering clubs (e.g., FSAE, Baja SAE, solar car, rocket, robotics).
• Experience with hand tools, machinery, or hardware assembly.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable manufacturing processes for new hardware and printed parts.
• Assist fixturing, test procedures, and post-processing steps to improve part flow.
• Develop documentation and process standards to support scaling to production.
• Build and iterate on tooling, jigs, and test setups for high-throughput production.
• Identify bottlenecks in part, material, and data flow and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve them.
• Support early production efforts and help transition R&D into high-rate manufacturing.
• Contribute to CNC machining workflows, including programming, setup, and optimization for post-processing of printed parts.
