Job summary

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will join Marki Microwave in Morgan Hill, CA, to develop processes, tooling, and fixturing for advanced automation equipment on high-mix RF/microwave production lines.

You will use AutoCAD/SolidWorks to design fixtures, prototype tooling with 3D printing, and collaborate with Production and Quality to document new processes. This hands-on role offers exposure to cutting-edge manufacturing in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student (junior/sophomore) in electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, or industrial engineering.
  • Minimum GPA 2.8.
  • Experience with project management and tools is a plus.
  • Experience with 2D/3D CAD; SolidWorks/AutoCAD preferred.
  • Self-starter who works independently in a team.
  • Hands-on approach and eager to tackle new projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop automated die attach, ultrasonic wire bonding, and epoxy lid attach processes.
  • Design and document fixtures, tooling, and processes using CAD tools.
  • Prototype tooling via 3D printing and quick-turn shops.
  • Collaborate with Production and Quality Assurance to document processes.
  • Present results and progress to the Marki team at internship end.

Salary Range: $28.00 To $42.00 Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will be tasked with a high impact and high visibility project to develop processes, tooling, & fixturing on advanced automation equipment.

This role will require access to access information controlled under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR, 15 CFR §§ 730-780),and likely the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR, 22 CFR §§ 120-130), and so applicants for this position must be one of a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or other Protected Individual (as defined under 8 USC § 1324b(a)(3)).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the Manufacturing Engineering and Equipment Engineering Technician team to develop automated die attach, ultrasonic wire bonding, and epoxy lid attach processes.
  • Utilize AutoCAD/SolidWorks to design & document new fixtures, tooling, & processes for high-mix manufacturing lines.
  • Prototype tooling and fixturing using 3D printing technologies and quick lead time machine shops.
  • Collaborate with Production and Quality Assurance to document new processes and procedures.
  • Brainstorm solutions for mechanical, electrical, process, & automation problems.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment on the cutting edge of RF & Microwave technologies and learn about the manufacturing processes utilized in the industry.
  • Manage priorities and communicate regularly with your manager on progress and challenges.
  • Present results to the Marki team at the conclusion of the internship via a readout meeting.

REQUIREMENTS

  • College undergraduate (Junior/Sophomore) studying electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, industrial engineering, or related field.
  • Strong academic record (minimum GPA 2.8).
  • Understanding of, or experience in, project management and use of project management tools is a plus.
  • Experience with 2D or 3D CAD, SolidWorks/AutoCAD preferred.
  • Must be a self-starter. Works independently while contributing to the team goals.
  • Commitment to work with a hands-on approach in a team atmosphere.
  • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Experience with machine shop equipment such as mills, lathes, waterjets, CNC’s etc. is a plus.
  • Experience with hand/power tooling is required.
  • Experience with pneumatic, mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical power transmission systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of production automation methodologies is a plus.
  • Experience programming computer-controlled machinery is a plus.
  • 3D printing experience is a plus.
  • Designing tooling/fixturing for automation or ergonomics is a plus.
  • Experience in RF component production and test a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible to changing priorities, deadlines, demands and assignments as needed.
  • Design of Experiments (DOE) & statistical process control experience preferred.
  • Excellent data analysis skills and a logical approach to problem solving.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, peers, and customers.
