Job summary

Irving Tissue in Macon, GA offers a hands-on engineering co-op program focused on equipment reliability and process improvements. You will work with cross-functional teams across quality, safety, and operations to drive maintenance and efficiency projects.

The role targets juniors pursuing an Industrial/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering degree, with 40-hour work weeks, on-site only, and opportunities for growth within the J.D. Irving network.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year engineering program (Industrial/Mechanical/Electrical).
  • Completed at least 2 years of study.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite (Excel/Word/PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Support Equipment Reliability and Uptime Improvement projects.
  • Assist with Waste Reduction initiatives and Root Cause Failure Analysis.
  • Participate in Preventive Maintenance systems and cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate with quality, safety, and paper-making groups.
  • Collaborate with vendors and operators on asset improvements.
  • Align teams to develop processes, procedures and policy.
  • Support ~40 hours per week in a hands-on internship.
  • Assist with trials for new products and efficiency improvements.
  • Gain exposure to first-quartile tissue manufacturing assets.

Responsibilities
  • Equipment Reliability and Uptime Improvement Projects
  • Waste Reduction Initiatives
  • Root Cause Failure Analysis
  • Preventive Maintenance Systems
  • Work in cross functional teams from quality, safety, and paper making to drive business initiatives
  • Working with vendors supplying high level services in all these areas
  • Interacting with Operators who run our assets
  • Aligning groups of people to develop processes, procedures and policy
  • The candidate will have the opportunity to work roughly 40 hours per week
  • Conducting trials for new products and efficiency improvements
  • Exposure to several first Quartile Assets in the Tissue Manufacturing business
Qualifications
  • Education Required: Currently enrolled in a 4 year Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree program and have completed at least 2 years
  • Must be fluent in MS Office, Excel, Word, Power Point
  • Must have a high level of professionalism and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills
  • Able to work in a highly organized manner where detail, accuracy, confidentiality, balancing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines are critical
