Job summary

Irving Tissue seeks a Paper Mill Process Engineer to provide process engineering support for through air-dried technology equipment and utilities. The role also involves engineering leadership to operations and developing operators’ skill levels while upholding safety and professional conduct.

You will lead product and process improvement initiatives from concept through commercialization, manage capital projects, and collaborate with multiple departments to drive reliability, quality, and cost

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Pulp and Paper Engineering or Environmental Science.
  • 1-5 years of relevant engineering experience in manufacturing or industrial settings.

  • Demonstrate professionalism and adhere to site safety policies.
  • Lead product and process improvement initiatives from concept through commercialization.
  • Manage small to medium-sized capital projects, ensuring on-time completion and budget adherence.
  • Provide technical leadership in design, optimization, and improvement of manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Collaborate with operators and cross-functional teams to develop and sustain SOPs and training materials.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through Kaizen events and problem-solving activities.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues using root cause analysis.

Responsibilities

The Paper Mill Process Engineer is responsible for providing process engineering support to through air-dried technology equipment and utilities processes for the Paper Mill. The position is also responsible to provide engineering leadership to operations, and to participate in the development of skill levels in operators while d emonstrating professionalism, respect, and ethical conduct at all times while adhering to all site safety policies and expectations.

  • Actively contribute to innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence by embracing the mindset of "Find a Better Way Every Day."
  • Lead product and process improvement initiatives from concept through commercialization, including identifying opportunities, developing solutions, and delivering measurable business results.
  • Manage small to medium-sized capital projects, ensuring completion on time and within budget, while supporting the planning, installation, and start-up of new equipment.
  • Provide technical leadership in the design, optimization, and improvement of manufacturing processes and equipment to enhance quality, productivity, reliability, and cost performance.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of paper mill processes, equipment capabilities, production performance, and key operational indicators.
  • Collaborate with operators, technicians, and cross-functional teams to develop, improve, and sustain standard operating procedures, training materials, and best practices.
  • Support Continuous Improvement initiatives through participation and leadership in Kaizen events, problem-solving activities, and process optimization efforts.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical and operational issues using root cause analysis and sound engineering principles.
  • Support equipment reliability by assisting with troubleshooting, maintenance planning, and coordination with OEMs and technical service providers as required.
  • Build and apply expertise in engineering, scientific analysis, and project management while providing guidance and technical support to others.
  • Lead and support cross-functional paper mill projects involving multiple departments (Converting, Maintenance, Engineering, Logistics, etc.), ensuring alignment, collaboration, and successful execution.
  • Utilize data management systems to collect, analyze, and interpret operational data to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Pulp and Paper Engineering or Environmental Science.
  • 1-5 years of relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
