New Leader in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern/Co-op to support the manufacturing engineering team on a variety of projects and daily tasks.

Ideal candidates are mechanical engineering students who can work part-time during the fall and full-time in the summer, with opportunities to continue into the spring. The role emphasizes design for manufacturing, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering or related field, required.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret manufacturing and engineering documents.
• Experience with design for manufacturing is preferred.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modeling tools preferred.
• Strong teamwork, analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design manufacturing aids such as weld fixtures, assembly fixtures, and material handling devices.
• Update engineering designs and drawings to improve product manufacturability.
• Participate in Continuous Improvement projects for safety, quality or efficiency.
• Perform inspections on production parts and fixtures to validate tolerances.
• Gather data for problem solving and new process development projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues.
