Job summary

Magna Powertrain in Indiana seeks an entry-level engineer to support routine engineering tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will assist in plans, drawings, and reports, work with CAD tools, and help implement quality processes for new product launches.

Ideal candidates have an Associate's degree in engineering and 2–5 years in manufacturing, with basic CNC knowledge and strong communication skills. This role supports three shifts and ongoing process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive Tier 1 or 2.
  • Basic understanding of CNC programming and manufacturing automation.
  • Knowledge of quality standards and certification processes (QS-9000, IATF 16949, ISO).
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD) for sketches and drawings.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interface with staff, vendors, customers, and plant employees.
  • Experience supporting plant startups, new product launches, and high-volume manufacturing operations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and APQP.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares routine engineering assignments, simple plans, designs, calculations, etc.
  • May carry out routine technical surveys or inspections and prepare reports.
  • Less than three years experience.
  • Prepare routine engineering assignments, simple plans, designs, calculations, and reports to support manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct basic technical surveys, inspections, and assist in documenting findings.
  • Support process documentation, including control plans, reaction plans, PFMEAs, and updated models.
  • Assist Supplier Quality and Manufacturing during ongoing production of new products.
  • Collaborate with management, engineering, maintenance, and production staff for a three-shift facility.
  • Apply basic statistical methods to evaluate machinery and process capability.
  • Utilize problem-solving techniques to identify issues and drive corrective actions.
  • Support CNC program edits and troubleshoot basic programming issues.
  • Assist production with quality concerns by identifying root causes and action plans.
  • Participate in plant layout planning, machinery placement, and material handling strategies.
  • Support shop floor personnel training and skill development.
