Responsibilities

• Evaluate customer data (3D CAD, drawings, scopes) to extract requirements for quotes and detailed engineering.
• Engage with customers, PMs, and commercial team to discuss gaps in scope vs. requirements.
• Identify customer-induced scope changes and escalate to PM or commercial lead.
• Collaborate with shop personnel to optimize process flow and drive continuous improvement.
• Develop drawings for rigging, storage, and equipment; draft from scratch as needed.

Westerman, Inc., an employee-owned company, is a multiple site manufacturer of production and storage equipment within the oil, gas, and nuclear industries. Our equipment helps optimize well pad design, improve separation efficiency and lower overall equipment spend through high-performance surface separation and processing technology. Our equipment is setting new standards for performance and economics nationwide.

SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for a location’s engineering & drafting and will also have a role in the process optimization and throughput for that location. Overall accountability for defining the technical solutions that are required to make the machining and fabrication work at this location successful. This position will be the lead technical representative for one of our shop locations.

This position is fully on-site and will be located at our facility in Hebron, OH.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Evaluate customer supplied data (3D CADD files, drawings, scopes of work, and quality documents) to extract requirements that impact the designs and ultimately the end product for purposes of quoting and performing detailed engineering
• Actively engage with external customers, project managers, and the commercial team in discussions about gaps in defined scope of supply as compared with customer requirements
• Passionately pursue the identification of customer induced scope change and escape to the project manager or commercial lead for consideration
• Collaborate with shop personnel and optimize process flow through the shop and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
• Create designs for rigging and transportation of material as required through the shop
• Create designs for storage racks, equipment, or other items as required for shop operation
• Develop drawings from scratch or via redlining of existing drawings to communicate project requirements to Estimators and Drafting. May need to perform some drafting responsibilities for local shop needs as required for quick turnaround items.
• Provide review and approval of all 3D model and drawings for assigned projects in accordance with Westerman’s standard operating procedures
• Perform process design calculations as required for general machine shop and shop flow work
• Primary work will be to support the opening and general operation and optimization of the Hebron shop, but long term and intermittent work will also include standard oil and gas or other types of custom fabricated equipment. Activities may include but are not limited to ASME pressure vessel code calculations using Codeware COMPRESS, equipment design and sizing, simulation using ProMax software, and system evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, structural, Petroleum, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
• 3-5 years of experience working in a similar capacity in a manufacturing environment with engineered to order products
• Must be familiar with ASME Y14.5 & GD&T and be able to read and design items with appropriate symbology and notation
• Knowledge of ASME, API, NFPA, ANSI and other standards preferred
• Experience specifying and designing process control systems comprised of a mix of pneumatic, electro-mechanical, and electronic devices preferred
• In depth knowledge of national and international codes and standards for Oil & Gas process equipment design and fabrication preferred
• Familiarity with Lathe, profiling, milling, or other automated machining equipment including programming is preferred
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and in managing work against safety, quality, cost and time constraints
• Ability to develop process equipment scheme and layout from conceptual design basis considering operability, maintenance, and safety
• Multi-tasking and ability to work well under pressure with multiple competing priorities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to comprehend project specifications and contract documents
• Ability to review and comprehend Piping & Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID’s) and other fabrication drawings
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Strong problem solving and organizational skills
• Software-efficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Software proficiency in ProMax and Codeware COMPRESS preferred
