Job summary

Komatsu is seeking an Industrial Engineer III to act as a technical SME across complex manufacturing environments. You will lead projects that improve labor utilization, throughput, safety, and on-time delivery using time studies, lean practices, data analysis, and standard work.

Work closely with manufacturing leadership, supervisors, planning, quality, safety, engineering, and senior management to identify constraints, validate routings and staffing models, and recommend process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Strong focus on capacity planning and productivity improvements.
  • Proven ability to apply lean manufacturing and data analysis to manufacturing processes.

Job Overview

The Industrial Engineer III serves as a technical subject matter expert in industrial engineering methods, labor standards, capacity planning, and productivity improvement within a complex manufacturing environment. This role leads and supports projects that improve labor utilization, throughput, cost, quality, safety, and on-time delivery by using time studies, work measurement, lean manufacturing, data analysis, standard work, and continuous improvement practices.

This position partners closely with manufacturing leadership, supervisors, planning, quality, safety, engineering, accounting, and senior management to identify operational constraints, improve workflow, validate routings and labor standards, support staffing models, and recommend process improvements.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for industrial engineering methods, labor standards, capacity analysis, and productivity improvement across manufacturing operations.
  • Leads complex industrial engineering projects that improve labor utilization, throughput, quality, safety, cost, and on-time delivery.
  • Develops, validates, and maintains labor standards, routings, staffing models, and capacity plans using sound industrial engineering practices.
  • Applies lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, time study, work measurement, and data analysis tools to optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Provides technical guidance, mentoring, and project leadership to manufacturing, engineering, supervision, planning, and support teams.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities to reduce waste, improve productivity, balance work cells, increase velocity, improve safety and quality, and support operational performance metrics.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Ability to remain calm in situations involving stress, deadlines, or upset employees or third parties.
  • Ability to establish and manage priorities of yourself and subordinates if applicable.
  • Physical presence at work needed approximately 90% of the time.
  • Ability to focus and meet deadlines on a timely basis.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with managers, peers, and subordinates.
  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent tasks.
  • Ability to understand how your emotions and communications are perceived by others including managers, peers, and subordinates and modify as needed to be an effective team member.
  • Ability to motivate your peers and subordinates to achieve targeted performance metrics.
Safety
  • Promote and support a safety-first culture by designing, improving, and sustaining manufacturing processes that protect employees, reduce risk, and support safe work execution.
  • Incorporate Komatsu safety goals, policies, and cardinal safety expectations into engineering decisions, process improvements, equipment layouts, tooling changes, and standard work.
  • Partner with operations, safety, quality, maintenance, and production teams to identify hazards, assess risk, and implement corrective actions that improve employee safety and operational performance.
  • Actively support continuous improvement initiatives that reduce unsafe conditions, improve ergonomics, eliminate waste, and strengthen reliable day-to-day work practices.
  • Ensure engineering recommendations consider safe material flow, machine guarding, crane and forklift movement, work-at-height exposure, suspended loads, pinch points, and other shop-floor risks.
  • Participate in safety reviews, incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning as needed to prevent recurrence and improve future processes.
