Job Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer/Programmer III provides technical manufacturing engineering and CNC programming support for machining operations, with a focus on improving safety, quality, productivity, cost, and on-time delivery. This role analyzes drawings, specifications, sketches, and design data to develop manufacturing processes, create and maintain CNC programs, select tooling and fixtures, establish speeds and feeds, and document setup sheets and process instructions for boring bars and horizontal machining centers.

This position works closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality, safety, purchasing, suppliers, supervisors, and hourly production employees to support production needs, troubleshoot issues, improve machining methods, and implement cost-effective manufacturing solutions. The role also supports capital projects, evaluates tooling and equipment needs, assists with routings, PFMEAs, cost estimates, and provides hands-on technical guidance to operators. Success in this role requires strong machining knowledge, experience with Mastercam, SolidWorks, and machine controls such as Fanuc or Siemens, along with the ability to manage multiple projects, communicate clearly, and actively support a safe manufacturing environment.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Provides technical assistance to Manufacturing Engineering and Manufacturing organization.
  • Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts. Creates and maintains programs which includes selecting fixturing and cutting tools, and machine speeds and feeds; and creates process sheets and tooling lists for Boring Bar and Horizontal Machining Centers.
  • Is a resource for capital projects. May prepare appropriation requests for capital projects
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and carries out improvement actions.
  • Develops new and improved manufacturing methods (DFMA).
  • Identifies opportunities to reduce cost, improve productivity, safety, quality, velocity, OTD, etc.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Minimum 4 years manufacturing experience
  • BS Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial). Would consider equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and Journeyman's status or 5 years of experience in the machining trades or equivalent.
  • Familiar with a variety of field concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Familiar with large equipment and parts
  • Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write necessary correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Safety
  • Promote and support a safety-first culture by designing, improving, and sustaining manufacturing processes that protect employees, reduce risk, and support safe work execution.
  • Incorporate Komatsu safety goals, policies, and cardinal safety expectations into engineering decisions, process improvements, equipment layouts, tooling changes, and standard work.
  • Partner with operations, safety, quality, maintenance, and production teams to identify hazards, assess risk, and implement corrective actions that improve employee safety and operational performance.
  • Actively support continuous improvement initiatives that reduce unsafe conditions, improve ergonomics, eliminate waste, and strengthen reliable day-to-day work practices.
  • Ensure engineering recommendations consider safe material flow, machine guarding, crane and forklift movement, work-at-height exposure, suspended loads, pinch points, and other shop-floor risks.
  • Participate in safety reviews, incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning as needed to prevent recurrence and improve future processes.
