Job summary

Smith & Wesson in Springfield, Massachusetts, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to develop and implement cost-effective manufacturing processes, coordinate launches for new or revised products, and drive process improvements.

Requirements include a BS in mechanical/manufacturing engineering (BSME) and 1–5 years’ experience, lean principles, proficiency with SolidWorks, PCDMS CMM programming, and basic MS Office; English proficiency is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (BSME) or equivalent and 1–5 years experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably firearms industry) with lean principles
• Experience with PCDMS CMM programming preferred
• Experience with SolidWorks preferred
• Experience in addressing needs and concerns of shop personnel and strong customer service skills
• Must have working command of the English language
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
• SolidWorks and/or CAM knowledge a plus

Responsibilities

• Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes, including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.
• Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products, including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results.
• Use project management techniques to ensure tools, gauges, fixtures, equipment, routings and CMM/CNC programs are defined, documented and implemented.
• Designs, develops, tests or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery and equipment for manufacturing methods.
• Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement and efficiency improvement.
• Maintains accuracy of the S&W manufacturing routing database including operation sequence, labor hours, set-up/changeover times and machine cycle times with proper work instructions.
