Job summary

General Motors in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support high-volume machining and grinding operations on a full-time basis. You will provide technical leadership for manufacturing equipment and processes, coordinate with internal teams and vendors, and drive improvements in quality, safety, and efficiency.

The role requires a BS in Engineering with 5+ years in manufacturing engineering support, plus experience with CNC equipment and CAD tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
• 5+ years of engineering support experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of high-volume manufacturing.
• Experience with Microsoft Suite and AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of CNC machining equipment for IDs, ODs, drilling, milling and turning.
• Ability to work off shifts and weekends as well as overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all manufacturing technical documentation is up to date.
• Provide technical direction to internal teams while overseeing external vendors to ensure manufacturing processes, equipment, and solutions meet quality, efficiency, and production requirements.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to drive problem-solving initiatives, including improving equipment efficiency, resolving downtime events, and addressing customer quality concerns.
• Provide day-to-day support of manufacturing operations and maintenance.
• Participate in identifying and/or resolving safety and ergonomics issues.
• Facilitate or deliver training for team members and maintenance personnel, while also developing technical training manuals and work instructions as needed.
• Participate in project planning and coordination to ensure tasks are completed on schedule and within budget.
