Job description

Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer.

Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located in our San Diego North office at 7919 Saint Andrews Ave San Diego, CA and reports to the Director of Aircraft Products.

Position Summary:

Responsible for reviewing engineering drawings, electronic CAD models, specifications and providing instructions for manufacture, rework, or repair of composite, sheet metal aircraft components/assemblies through the ERP system and additional supporting software.

Essential Functions:

  1. Serves as a project manager to ensure that contract requirements, specifications, design criteria and schedule performance are integrated and maintained.
  2. Document manufacturing instructions for the fabrication, machining, inspection, assembly, and paint of composites and metal components and assemblies.
  3. Construct Item Masters (IM’s) and bill-of-materials (BoMs) in ERP software.
  4. Develop IPD and XOP drawings to assist manufacturing and supply chain in procurement of parts and services. Generate instructions for rework or repair of non-conforming materials.
  5. Provide support with engineering clarification and interpretation.
  6. Implement redlines to manufacturing plans for correction or clarification.
  7. Develop and implement technical solutions for Laminate/Sandwich Composite and Metal Bond processing through lay-up, curing, machining, assembly, and finishing.
  8. Generate CAD geometry for CAM programming and tooling.
  9. Generate and coordinate Non-Destructive Test (NDT) reference standard manufacturing plans and technique sheets with RW North NDT Level II.
  10. Coordinate and communicate with customer or supplier engineering to resolve technical questions or issues.
  11. Participate in First Part Qualification activities related to composite and metal bond parts.
  12. Coordinates to provide technical guidance for continuous improvement activities to improve quality, cost and schedule.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  2. Minimum of 4 years of experience with Boeing manufacturing specifications, techniques and processes for aircraft components specifically composites fabrication, honeycomb sandwich panel fabrication, metal bonding and assembly.
  3. Experience in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) SAP or Net Suite strongly preferred.
  4. Experience with CATIA V or SolidWorks CAD & PLM systems.
  5. Highly organized with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  6. Solves complex problems and exercises judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.
  7. Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal skills to drive tasks to completion.
  8. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  9. Bi-lingual Spanish a plus.

Compensation:

The compensation range for this position falls within $110,000 and $130,000. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, and other factors permitted by law.
