Job summary

Moog Military Aircraft LLC is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer based in Torrance, CA. This role focuses on new product introduction and continuous improvement in complex manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

Job description

Job Summary

Manufacturing Engineer – Torrance, CA (9/80 schedule). Reporting to the Manager, Manufacturing Engineering. Requires a 9/80 schedule onsite in Torrance, CA.

Responsibilities
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): perform drawing reviews to ensure DFMA principles, develop quality‑based and cost‑effective manufacturing processes, design tooling for operations requiring holding fixtures or specialized cutting, and conduct critical analysis during proof‑out of manufacturing processes to achieve targeted quality yield and efficiency.
  • Legacy Programs & Production Environment: support continuous improvement in the machine shop for complex parts and sub‑assemblies, review legacy manufacturing plans for compatibility with engineering drawings, recommend improvements and drawing updates to enhance yield, and implement Automation, Advanced Manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 technologies. Research, specify, and purchase capital equipment for additional capacity or technology improvements. Coordinate with departments to assure effective design and use of manufacturing facilities and processes. Provide technical ownership of gear production equipment (hobbers, shapers) including programming, troubleshooting, and fixture/tool specifications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline with experience in aerospace component manufacturing.
  • Equivalent seasoned experience in manufacturing engineering considered acceptable as an alternative to the degree requirement.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive manufacturing engineering experience, preferably with aerospace cylindrical steel components.
  • Results‑oriented team player with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes: turning, milling (OD/ID, surface, jig), grinding.
  • Familiarity with gear machining processes: shaping, hobbing, broaching, gear grinding.
  • Extensive knowledge of machining properties for aerospace steels (carbon, stainless, carburizing, nitriding, aluminum) and moderate knowledge of heat treatment (carburizing, nitriding, core hardening).
  • Experience with plating processes (cad plating, zinc‑nickel plating, chrome plating), NDT (magnetic particle inspection, nital etch inspection, hardness testing), and aerospace painting processes.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, GDT, engineering drawing interpretation and creation, fixture and tool design, and inspection methods for cylindrical and small to mid‑size geared components.
  • Ability to employ quality processes (5 Why’s, fishbone diagrams) for root cause analysis and corrective action on low‑yield or non‑conforming hardware.
  • Optional: experience with NX & Team Center, creating manufacturing processes for aerospace cylindrical components with gears or splines, knowledge of gears/splines manufacturing and inspection, CMM (Zeiss) inspection methods, AS9100 familiarity, and strong organizational & time‑management skills.

Salary Range

Torrance, CA – $90,000.00–$115,000.00 annually (base salary; actual may vary by location, experience, and performance).
