Job Title: Manufacturing Process Engineer

Location: San Jose, CA

Job Overview

The Manufacturing Process Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining detailed work instructions, shop floor routings, and production documentation to support efficient, high-quality PCBA and electro-mechanical assembly operations. This role bridges engineering and manufacturing, driving process improvements and ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Production Engineering Support

  • Provide hands-on engineering support to production teams to meet manufacturing, quality, and cost goals.
  • Serve as the point of contact for manufacturability issues and continuous improvement initiatives.

Documentation & Workflow Development

  • Validate work orders (WO) and bills of materials (BOM) to ensure accuracy.
  • Create and maintain shop floor routings and operation-specific work instructions.
  • Document customer flow-down requirements, including inspection criteria, traceability, external processes, and testing protocols.

Change Management

  • Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and in-process change requests.
  • Assess impact of changes on production and update documentation accordingly.
  • Coordinate with production for smooth implementation of changes and phase-in/cut-in plans.
  • Participate in FMEA, root cause analysis, and defect reduction efforts.
  • Support new product launches and process capability assessments.
  • Contribute to Lean, Six Sigma, and 5S initiatives across the floor.
  • Assist in operator training and certification processes.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Industrial preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in process or manufacturing engineering in a high-mix, fast-paced production environment.

Skills & Tools

  • Strong understanding of PCBA and electro-mechanical assembly processes.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting manufacturing documentation including BOMs and WOs.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, and CUI data control.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio) and CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Allegro a plus).
  • Knowledge of quality systems including AS9100 and ISO13485 is highly desirable.

Communication

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to convey complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams.
