Job summary

Veeco Instruments Inc. is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support New Product Introduction (NPI) from concept through production readiness for semiconductor capital equipment.

You will work with design, quality, supply chain, and operations to ensure manufacturability, reliability, and service readiness before release to production. This role offers early design involvement, shaping how products are built and validated, and smooth transition into production and customer environments.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience, including support of NPI programs.
• Experience transitioning complex electromechanical or semiconductor equipment into manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with manufacturing quality tools and DFMEA; knowledge of GD&T and BOMs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support NPI programs from concept to production readiness.
• Evaluate designs for manufacturability, assembly, integration, test, and serviceability.
• Translate design intent into production‑ready solutions for assembly and testing.
• Develop manufacturing processes, build flows, work instructions, and inspection strategies.
• Collaborate with suppliers on critical parts and subsystems; use DFMEA, 8D, and root-cause analysis.

Overview

Veeco is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support New Product Introduction (NPI) from early design concept through production readiness for semiconductor capital equipment. This role works closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure products meet manufacturing, quality, reliability, and service readiness requirements before release to production.

This position offers the opportunity to work on complex, high‑value semiconductor tools where manufacturing engineering has real influence. You will engage early in the design cycle, help shape how products are built and validated, and see your work transition successfully into production and customer environments.

The Manufacturing Engineer is an individual contributor who works independently within a defined scope. The role owns manufacturing readiness for assigned tool modules or NPI programs and applies established engineering principles to identify risks, resolve issues, and support a smooth transition from development into sustained production.

Responsibilities

• Support NPI programs from concept, development, and validation through production readiness.
• Evaluate designs for manufacturability, assembly, integration, test, serviceability, and scalability.
• Identify manufacturing, integration, and supply chain risks and drive mitigation actions prior to design release.
• Translate design intent into production‑ready solutions supporting assembly, integration, and final test.
• Participate in concept, preliminary, and detailed design reviews, providing manufacturing engineering input.
• Review BOMs, drawings, CAD models, schematics, and system and component‑level test plans.
• Ensure designs are complete and coordinated across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and software disciplines before ECO release.
• Develop manufacturing processes, build flows, work instructions, tooling, fixtures, and inspection strategies.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Process Failure Mode and Effects (PFMEA), and Design for Test (DFT) methodologies.
• Support engineering builds, Factory Acceptance (FA) builds, and production readiness activities.
• Collaborate with suppliers on critical or high‑risk fabricated parts and subsystems. Utilize structured problem‑solving methods such as DFMEA, Fishbone, 8D, and failure analysis.
• Document lessons learned to improve future NPI execution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience, including support of NPI programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience transitioning complex electromechanical or semiconductor equipment into manufacturing environments.
• Demonstrated experience supporting NPI from concept through production readiness.
• Working knowledge of semiconductor capital equipment or vacuum‑based system manufacturing strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of assembly, integration, test, inspection, modularity, and serviceability.
• Ability to evaluate design completeness and manufacturability across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Experience with tolerance analysis (GD&T), interference checks, and structured BOMs.
• Familiarity with manufacturing quality tools and DFMEA.
• SAP or ERP system experience preferred.
• Lean Six Sigma training or certification is a plus.
• Ability to travel up to 10%, depending on the NPI phase.

Salary and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $93,968 —$119,026, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job‑related factors when determining your pay.
