About Veeco You probably don’t realize it, but what we do at Veeco touches the lives of every person, every day. It’s a bold statement, but it’s true. From the smartphones in our pockets that access the world’s collective knowledge, to the cloud-based services where all that information lives, to high-speed wireless communication and computing power needed to drive artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, gaming and so much more, our technology is all around us.

We design, develop, manufacture, and service highly complex, cutting-edge machines used by our customers to create the essential devices that drive the digital age, connect the world, and improve the human experience. Along with the world’s leading technology companies, many of which are household names, we help solve their most difficult material science challenges, enabling technologies for a more connected, sustainable, and convenient world.

We’re looking for material difference-makers to join our growing team.

Overview

Veeco’s semiconductor equipment must move from complex build to repeatable factory performance without losing precision, quality, or delivery speed.

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will turn production issues into durable process improvements for advanced electromechanical systems used in semiconductor manufacturing. Your work will strengthen build consistency, product reliability, and manufacturing readiness across Veeco’s process equipment portfolio, including laser annealing, ion beam, metal organic chemical vapor deposition, single wafer etch and clean, and lithography systems.

You will shape the build methods, engineering changes, and troubleshooting practices that help Veeco deliver high‑value technology to customers competing in artificial intelligence, high‑performance computing, silicon photonics, and advanced semiconductor markets.

Responsibilities
  • Own manufacturing engineering outcomes for assigned semiconductor capital equipment products, improving build quality, production readiness, and process stability in defined areas of responsibility.
  • Resolve complex assembly, integration, and test issues by translating root cause findings into corrective actions that improve yield, reliability, and cycle time.
  • Improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, tooling, fixtures, and test procedures so production teams can build sophisticated electromechanical systems with consistency and control.
  • Evaluate engineering changes for design intent, fit, form, function, tolerances, manufacturability, and manufacturing execution before implementation.
  • Drive cross‑functional problem‑solving with Design Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Service, and Operations to remove barriers affecting production, supplier quality, and field performance.
  • Use drawings, bills of material, computer‑aided design models, schematics, test data, and manufacturing metrics to identify risk, make sound recommendations, and document lessons learned.
  • Standardize proven improvements across assigned products and processes to reduce repeat issues and strengthen long‑term factory performance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent technical education and experience.
  • At least 2 years of hands‑on manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex mechanical or electromechanical systems in assembly, integration, test, or production operations.
  • Experience implementing engineering changes, manufacturing process improvements, and structured root cause analysis in a released‑product environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Practical knowledge of semiconductor capital equipment or other low‑volume, high‑mix electromechanical systems with mechanical, electrical, vacuum, fluid delivery, motion control, automation, or precision assembly subsystems.
  • Skilled at applying structured problem‑solving methods such as 5 Whys, fishbone analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, and corrective and preventive action processes.
  • Able to interpret engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements, bills of material, computer‑aided design models, electrical schematics, work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Comfortable using tolerance analysis, inspection methods, measurement systems, and fit/function reviews to improve manufacturability and product quality.
  • Effective at turning production data, technical findings, and risk tradeoffs into clear written recommendations for engineering, operations, quality, supply chain, service, and leadership stakeholders.
  • Experienced with enterprise‑resource planning systems such as SAP, engineering change workflows, configuration control, manufacturing quality systems, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Lean Six Sigma training or certification is helpful for candidates who want to deepen their process improvement toolkit.
