Job summary

Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense Company is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer in California with project management experience in a manufacturing environment. The ME reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Lead and will develop and maintain manufacturing documentation while solving process failures.

The role requires hands-on manufacturing experience, proficiency in CAD/SolidWorks, and strong Lean/CI skills.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in engineering; mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing preferred.
  • 2+ years hands-on manufacturing experience.
  • PM skills to document and execute projects related to manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience with Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation (including instructions, routings, process specs and tooling).
  • Solve manufacturing problems, investigate process failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Act as main technical liaison between customer and EBAD during transitions proposals to production.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure production viability and approval of documentation.
  • Interface with production personnel including operators, quality inspectors, and shop floor supervisors.
  • Generate PFMEA, Production Preparation Process (3P), TPM and PHA content.
  • Implement lean manufacturing methodologies including standard work, point of use tooling, material presentation and process improvements.
  • Lead Kaizen activities and support Kaizen teams.
  • Develop manufacturing cell layouts including tooling, machinery and equipment.
  • Create standard work and contribute to manufacturing planning.
  • Identify and implement CAPEX/CAR initiatives for manufacturing equipment and automation.
  • Lead and support repeat/high volume projects by managing documentation and test documentation.
  • Be a technical liaison for process creation, validation and implementation.
  • Track status and ensure completion of operations milestones for production programs.

Job Description

EBAD is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer (ME) with project management experience working in a manufacturing environment. The ME position reports directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Lead.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation (including manufacturing instructions, routings, process specifications and tooling)
  • Solving manufacturing problems, investigating process failures and implementing corrective actions
  • Providing continuity during transitions from proposals to production by acting as the main technical liaison between the customer and EBAD.
  • Coordination with other departments to ensure the production viability of new designs, creation of the required documentation, and internal and customer approval of documentation.
  • Interface with production personnel including operators, quality inspectors, and shop floor supervisors
  • Generate content for Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Process 3P (Production Preparation Process), TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and PHA (Process Hazard Assessment)
  • Implementation of lean manufacturing methodologies including standard work, point of use tooling, material presentation and process improvements
  • Lead and Support Kaizen activities to support the Kaizen teams
  • Develop manufacturing cell layouts including tooling, machinery and equipment as needed.
  • Create standard work and contribute to manufacturing planning
  • Identify, lead, and implement Capital Expenditure (CAPEX/CAR) initiatives as related to manufacturing equipment, machinery and automated inspection equipment
  • Lead and support repeat/high volume projects by managing the customer technical documentation, manufacturing documentation and test documentation.
  • Be a technical liaison for manufacturing process creation, validation and implementation
  • Tracking status and ensuring completion of operations milestones and tasks for production programs
Requirements
  • BS/MS in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical engineering, industrial engineer, or manufacturing engineering or related manufacturing experience in multi-part mechanisms and mechanical assemblies.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing
  • Project management skills with the ability to document, plan, and execute projects related to manufacturing equipment and process improvement
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems using formal problem-solving tools.
  • Demonstrated ability of implementing of Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing methodologies
  • Familiarity with the Aerospace & Defense industry, AS9100, ISO9001 or other heavily regulated industry
  • CAD, 3-D modeling, assembly creation, drawings and GD&T in SolidWorks
  • Design for Manufacturing methods and techniques
  • MS Office proficiency – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio
  • Enterprise/Manufacturing Resource Planning (ERP/MRP) systems.
  • This position requires good shop floor presence, and motivation to become a process subject matter expert.
  • The manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for investigations and daily floor support.
Compensation

Salary Range: $95,000 - $140,000 per year. Salary is determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
