Job summary

Sub-Zero, Inc. in Madison, WI is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer – Assembly to design and implement complete assembly processes for new product development. The role requires hands-on engineering methods, process design, and cross-functional collaboration to meet production goals.

You will develop process plans, lead capital projects, and ensure DFM/DFA feedback is incorporated, while delivering robust, cost-efficient assembly solutions across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–7 years in a manufacturing engineering role with increasing responsibilities.
  • Experience with various assembly processes for appliances.
  • Knowledge of tolerance stack analysis from components to assembly tooling.
  • Ability to interface across levels and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze designs and concepts to define required assembly processes.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive process plan for assembly.
  • Collaborate with design, quality, reliability, operations, and supply chain to improve efficiency.
  • Provide project and process requirements for early development activities.
  • Generate and manage capital projects from concept to implementation.
  • Provide assembly expertise through design reviews, PFMEA, and tolerance analysis, and offer DFM/DFA feedback with solutions.
  • Create process documentation for production engineers, supervisors, and operators.
  • Research and apply process technology to cost-efficient, robust assembly processes.
  • Deliver assembly processes to meet capacity, quality, schedule, and cost targets.
  • Assist production support and select required tooling for assembly processes.
  • Assist in training colleagues in areas of expertise.

The Manufacturing Engineer – Assembly will focus to bring experience and thorough process design to new product development teams for our Process Engineering – Assembly team.

We are seeking an experienced motivated individual with an analytical and hands on approach to provide technical expertise to the manufacturing engineering staff in our assembly team. This role will drive our efforts to effectively plan, design and implement complete assembly processes and systems across the organization.

The right individual in this position will consistently apply engineering methods of design evaluation, process and equipment requirement generation, process design and documentation and process evaluation to NPD and functional projects for Sub-Zero, Wolf and Cove.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and provide feedback for designs and concepts with respect to required assembly processes to meet product and customer need
  • Create and maintain the process plan to meet all system/product assembly requirements
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering functions (design, quality, reliability), manufacturing operations, supply chain and others to communicate process requirements and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste
  • Provide project and process requirements to NPD teams for early development activities
  • Generate and manage capital projects for manufacturing engineering from concept to implementation
  • Provide assembly expertise through design review, PFMEA and manufacturing tolerance analysis, and provide DFM/DFA feedback, with proposed solutions
  • Create relevant process documentation for communication to production engineers, supervisors and operators
  • Research and analyze process technology and methodology to implement solutions for cost efficient and robust assembly processes
  • Deliver assembly processes to the production environment, meeting production capacity, quality, schedule and cost requirements
  • Assist production support engineering functions as needed
  • Research, analyze and select required tooling as needed for assembly processes
  • Assist in training others in areas of expertise

Minimum of 3-7 years, working in a Manufacturing Engineering role with progressive growth in responsibilities, 8+ years preferred

Knowledge of a wide variety of assembly processes relevant to appliance manufacturing such as sub-assembly techniques, process documentation, fastening, product inspection and process verification techniques

Experience processing tolerance stack analysis from component through assembly tooling

Experience installing and starting up various assembly processes

Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control

Working knowledge of GD&T principles

Ability to interface with all levels of the organization (internally and externally)

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Preferred

Assembly of highly cosmetic product

Time standard and work instruction generation

Specification of conveyance for small to medium sized products and understanding of functional safety requirements

MES, PLM and ERP system experience

Final assembly experience of multiple sub assemblies

Process capability analysis and implementation of control parameters within an assembly process
