Manufacturing Engineer

Engineering / Manufacturing • Full-Time • Exempt

6:00 PM – 6:30 AM • Lindon, Utah

Reports to Plant Manager • Dotted Line to VP & General Manager, Lindon Facility

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or Related Discipline)
Why Somafina?

Somafina is a growing co-manufacturer of vitamins and supplements in Utah, and business is thriving as we attract larger, more established customers. It's a fast-paced environment with real momentum — which means real opportunities for an engineer to make a visible, measurable impact early in their career. If you're ready to apply your engineering training to real production problems and grow with us, we'd love to have you on the team.

Position Description

The Manufacturing Engineer applies engineering fundamentals — root cause analysis, process data, and hands-on problem-solving — to Somafina's Lindon production operations from 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM. This is not a desk-bound analyst role: you'll be on the floor diagnosing equipment and process issues in real time, running experiments to improve throughput and quality, and translating findings into changes that stick. You'll work directly with the Plant Manager and VP & General Manager, giving you visibility and influence well beyond a typical entry-level engineering role.

We're looking for an early-career engineer — any discipline — with strong analytical instincts, a fast learning curve, and genuine curiosity about how things work and why they break. Direct experience in gummy or nutraceutical manufacturing is a plus, not a requirement; we'll teach you the product. What we can't teach is engineering judgment, and that's what we're hiring for. This role has a clear growth path into senior manufacturing engineering or plant leadership as you build a track record.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Owns technical troubleshooting for Lindon production operations from 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM, applying root cause analysis to diagnose equipment failures, process variation, and quality issues.
  • Designs and runs process improvement experiments (e.g., changeover time, equipment settings, line balancing) and uses production data to validate results before rolling out changes.
  • Partners with the Plant Manager, and maintains a dotted-line relationship with the VP & General Manager, to prioritize and resolve production bottlenecks and process inefficiencies.
  • Analyzes key production metrics (throughput, downtime, scrap, efficiency) to identify trends, quantify improvement opportunities, and track the impact of engineering changes.
  • Develops a deep technical understanding of Somafina's manufacturing equipment, systems, and product-specific production methods.
  • Writes and revises SOPs, work instructions, and technical documentation to capture process improvements and support consistent execution.
  • Coordinates equipment maintenance, calibration, and minor engineering changes with Maintenance and Quality teams.
  • Trains and coaches production staff on new procedures and process changes, translating technical concepts for a non-engineering audience.
  • Ensures compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards (GMP/OSHA) across all engineering and process changes.
  • Takes on increasing technical scope and ownership over time, with a clear growth path toward senior manufacturing engineering or plant leadership roles.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs all work in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Supports a culture of continuous improvement across the production floor.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Performs other job-related tasks/responsibilities as requested by leadership. Job duties may change as required by the needs of the company.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or another Engineering discipline strongly preferred; other technical or quantitative degrees will be considered.
Competencies / Skill Qualifications
  • Early career engineer — prior manufacturing experience is not required, but strong fundamentals in root cause analysis, process thinking, and data-driven problem-solving are essential.
  • Comfortable working with production data and basic statistical tools (e.g., Excel; exposure to Minitab/JMP is a plus) to identify trends and validate improvements.
  • Exceptional judgment, critical thinking, and analytical ability; energized by diagnosing complex, ambiguous operational problems rather than working from a fixed playbook.
  • Hands-on mindset — comfortable being on the production floor, not just analyzing data from a desk.
  • Self-motivated and highly coachable, with a hunger to learn manufacturing processes and equipment from the ground up.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate technical findings for both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience in gummy, nutraceutical, or consumer goods manufacturing is a plus, but not required.
  • English proficiency required.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be comfortable spending extended time on the production floor, including standing, walking, and moving through manufacturing areas.
  • Must have command of the senses — sight, hearing, touch, and smell — to identify equipment and process issues.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be available and able to work from 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM, including required alertness and focus during overnight operations.
