Job summary

Somafina, a Utah-based nutraceutical co-manufacturer, is seeking a Junior Buyer in Layton, UT. You will oversee purchasing of materials and services, ensure quality, quantity, delivery dates and cost, and negotiate favorable terms with suppliers. You will review MRPs and maintain supplier data.

Candidates with a bachelor's degree preferred and 5–7 years in supply chain or procurement will thrive in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving are essential.

Responsibilities

• Oversees purchasing of materials and services, ensuring quality, quantity, delivery date, and cost.
• Negotiates terms with suppliers to benefit Somafina.
• Reviews system-generated MRP messages daily and acts on them.
• Ensures POs are confirmed by suppliers within 48 hours.
• Maintains PO updates and supplier data for clear company visibility.
• Maintains system data for product categories including pricing and lead times.
• Reviews order volumes, credit terms, and limits as negotiation tactics.
• Qualifies minimum two supplier sources for materials to ensure continuity.
• Visits suppliers to negotiate costs, lead times, and stocking programs.
• Delivers supplier scorecard reviews as scheduled.
• Communicates clearly across the organization and with warehouse and accounting.
• Coordinates returns to vendors after MRB disposition.
• Liaises with Warehouse for documentation and release.
• Maintains relationships with suppliers and coworkers, meeting expectations.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Oversees the purchasing of materials and services required by the organization, ensuring quality, quantity, delivery date, and cost.
• Self-engages in negotiations with suppliers on terms and conditions that are advantageous to Somafina.
• Conducts daily review and execution of system-generated MRP messages.
• Ensures that all POs placed are confirmed by suppliers within 48 hours of PO transmission.
• Maintains clear and concise PO updates and notes to ensure the entire organization has a clear understanding of current PO/item status.
• Maintains all system static data for assigned product categories, including but not limited to pricing, lead time, MOQ, and supplier information.
• Regularly reviews order volumes, credit terms, and credit limits as an effective negotiation tactic.
• Ensures supply chain continuity by qualifying a minimum of two sources on all materials.
• Conducts regular visits with suppliers to build network, negotiate costs, lead times, stocking programs, etc.
• Delivers supplier scorecard reviews on a specified and as-needed cadence.
• Supports and communicates in a clear and effective manner across the organization.
• Processes returns to vendor after MRB (Material Review Board) disposition to return.
• Liaises with Warehouse staff to provide all necessary documentation needed for receiving and quality review and release.
• Coordinates payment schedule between suppliers and the Somafina Accounting department.
• Establishes and maintains long-term relationships with suppliers and co-workers, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations, and maintaining a high degree of communication, cooperation, and coordination.
• Works effectively with other employees.
• Contributes to department team incentive goals, based on productivity in both quantity and quality of work and the accuracy to which the job and/or processes are completed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Competencies / Skill Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business or a related field preferred but not required.
• 5–7 years of experience within supply chain or procurement preferred.
