Kimball Electronics in Jasper, IN is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to drive process improvements, DFx activities, and equipment qualification. You will partner with customers and production teams to ensure ISO/QS procedures are followed and PFMEA/Control plans are in place.

Ideal candidates have a 4-year engineering degree or a 2-year technical degree with 3–5 years hands-on experience, plus Green Belt Lean Six Sigma and strong knowledge of SMT, box-build, and related processes.

Qualifications

  • Preferred 4-year degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering.
  • Will evaluate individuals with 2-year technical degree with 3-5 years hands on experience in related industry
  • Lean 6 Sigma approach (Green Belt level)
  • Strong Computer Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Minitab)
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment (SMT, Through-hole, box-build, simulation, packaging) preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand complex specifications
  • Strong mechanical and electronics knowledge
  • Strong problem-solving techniques and processes
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Certification to IPC 610/J-STD-001 Certification, or the ability to obtain certification

Responsibilities

  • Review and determine process/flow and equipment/tooling requirements.
  • Direct interface with customers and production teams.
  • Establish and maintain Manufacturing Engineering support to meet Jasper/Group and customer requirements.
  • Ensure ISO and QS procedures are followed; address PFMEA and PPAP data packages.
  • Drive DFx activities and provide feedback to customers.
  • Review and oversee Engineering Change (EC) implementation.
  • Review all manufacturing documentation with engineering team.
  • Work with quality to define PFMEAs, control plans and PPAP data packages.
  • Own equipment characterization, validation and qualification activities.
  • Support quotations in response to RFQs with efficient use of resources.

Quick Summary
  • Reviews customer documentation and determines process/flow and equipment/tooling requirements

  • Ensure all ISO and QS procedures are followed, and that failure analyses, RMAs and corrective actions are addressed, consistent with timing expectations
  • Drive DFx activities and provide feedback to customers
  • Review and oversee EC (Engineering Change) implementation
  • Review all manufacturing documentation with engineering team
  • Work directly with the quality team to define PFMEA’s, Control plans and assist with PPAP data packages
  • Ownership of equipment characterization, validation and qualification activities
  • Ensures the effective use of material, equipment and personnel in producing quality products at minimum costs and support the development of quotations in response to our customer’s RFQs.

Key Performance Objectives

Short Term to Midterm: (0 to 3 months) Learn Kimball Jasper systems and controls by reviewing existing applicable processes, SOPs, quality systems, and work instructions by the end of the third month. Complete On the job training form including traceability system introduction, PAIs, ECO/Deviation process, Continual Improvements, and so forth. Will be completed by the end of month three.

Midterm: (3 to 6 months) Understand and apply the processes applicable to ME role. Assess current state production methods and equipment. Determine course of action to improve manufacturing processes and tools that are critical to the mission. Provide technical leadership to the Customer Teams. Implement Lean and ergonomic manufacturing lines. Provide monthly report out of accomplishments.

Long-term: (6 to >12 months) Provide strategic planning for manufacturing cell processes and capabilities. Lead the development of the manufacturing assembly area and equipment layout. Collaborate with Kimball Jasper Customer Teams, other Kimball sites, suppliers, etc. to develop best practices. Collaborate with Kimball Jasper DfX group to develop and continuously improve design for manufacturing guidelines that incorporate manufacturing requirements.
