Job summary

Volvo Group in the United States, North Carolina, is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support and improve BIW production. You will work on the shop floor and lead improvement activities with cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes ownership, urgency, and a willingness to learn, with exposure to cost-effective solutions and built-in quality. We will provide training on technologies and systems.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a similar field (automotive or BIW experience is a plus, but not required).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, including risk identification and mitigation, both individually and in teams.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support and improve BIW manufacturing processes, techniques, equipment, gauging, IT systems, and tooling to reduce defects and improve quality.
  • Spend time on the shop floor to confirm that tooling and fixtures perform to expected quality and safety standards; follow up quickly on any issues.
  • Learn and apply new technologies and systems to improve our assembly line performance.
  • Develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions that can adapt to product and volume changes.
  • Participate in and support project planning, including: pre-studies and feasibility checks; volume and capacity assessments; follow-up on actions, timing, and results with stakeholders.
  • Use benchmarking and best practices from inside and outside the organization to improve our processes.
  • Listen to and understand the needs of internal and external customers, especially production and quality.
  • Clearly communicate ideas, problems, and solutions in both written and verbal form.
  • Work collaboratively to solve problems, support root cause analysis, and help prevent and de-escalate conflicts.
  • Take initiative to identify risks and potential issues early, and act quickly to minimize their impact.
  • Contribute actively to our continuous improvement culture, with a focus on: Waste elimination; Built-in quality and error-proofing; A safe, clean, and organized working environment.

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company’s growth. For this position, the base pay is set at $85,000 - $100,000 annually, and where applicable, bonus eligible. The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work‑related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
