Job summary

Protingent is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for our Elyria, OH site to develop and implement efficient manufacturing processes in line with product specs and quality standards.

You will drive continuous improvement in machining strategies, support AS9145 implementation, and help cost-justify new tooling and capital investments at our historic Elyria facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
• 2-5 years of manufacturing engineering experience, with preference for precision machining or automotive environments.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and methods including line flow, shop layout, assembly, GD&T, and CAD proficiency.
• Quality methodologies: APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and MSA for AS9145 process controls.

Responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate, and optimize manufacturing methods using knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, and equipment capabilities.
• Provide production support, drive root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions across manufacturing areas.
• Identify equipment, machining strategies, tooling, and gages; define feeds, speeds, and parameters to meet specs.
• Create and maintain production routings detailing every step from raw materials to finished components.
• Source and cost-justify tools and equipment; draft capital investment justifications and training materials.
• Create or modify NC/CNC programs to manufacture hardware per specs.
• Support AS9145 implementation with APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and MSA.
• Prepare component and assembly cost estimates for new opportunities.

Protingent has an exciting direct hire opportunity with our client in Elyria, OH for a Manufacturing Engineer to work onsite in Elyria, OH.

Job Description

Our client is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to develop and implement manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. Located at our client's historic Elyria facility—a site known for excellence in aircraft pumping technology and custom thermal management solutions—you will drive continuous improvement around machining and manufacturing strategies and actively participate in the site-wide implementation of AS9145 (APQP).

Job Responsibilities

• Process Development: Develop, evaluate, and optimize manufacturing methods utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, and production equipment capabilities.
• Production Support & Ownership: Perform production support engineering for assigned manufacturing areas; drive root cause analysis and collaborate cross-functionally to resolve processing issues with corrective actions.
• Machining & Tooling Strategy: Identify appropriate equipment, machining strategies, tooling, and gages for machined components; define feeds, speeds, and operation parameters to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Production Routings: Create and maintain production routings, defining every operational step required to convert raw materials into finished, tested components and assemblies.
• Capital Justification: Source, test, and cost-justify tools, machinery, and equipment, including drafting capital investment justifications, implementation plans, and training materials.
• NC/CNC Programming: Create or modify NC/CNC programs as needed to manufacture hardware efficiently according to product specifications.
• AS9145 Implementation: Support the site's AS9145 implementation through active application of APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA).
• Cost Estimation: Prepare component and assembly cost estimates to support financial decision-making for new business opportunities

Job Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
• Experience: 2-5 years of manufacturing engineering experience, with a preference for precision machining or automotive manufacturing environments.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and methods—including line flow, shop layout, assembly, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and CAD proficiency.
• Quality Methodologies: Proficiency with APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and MSA for AS9145 process controls.

Preferred Job Qualifications

• Direct experience in precision machining, aerospace manufacturing, or high-reliability automotive manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience with NC/CNC programming, tooling design, or automated manufacturing systems.
• Active experience implementing or working within an AS9145 framework.
