Job summary

Crossett Search & Advisory Group is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer for a waterfront Benicia, CA facility. The role blends engineering expertise with shop-floor leadership to improve quality, efficiency, and throughput.

You will drive process improvements, write SOPs, lead root-cause analyses, and train personnel while collaborating with operations and leadership to sustain gains.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years in a discrete manufacturing environment in process/ manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience writing SOPs, work instructions, or process specs.
  • Familiarity with Lean tools (5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping).
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills (5-Why, Fishbone).
  • Ability to read production drawings and equipment manuals.
  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks/AutoCAD).
  • Working knowledge of EH&S practices.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate production workflows to improve efficiency, quality, and throughput.
  • Create, verify, and maintain SOPs and process specs for all production cells.
  • Develop and implement workmanship standards; train production personnel.
  • Lead RCA and corrective actions; drive sustained gains.
  • Provide technical guidance to supervisors and operators; support safety initiatives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on projects impacting facility performance.

Job description

Our established and growing manufacturing client is seeking a hands-onManufacturing Engineer to become the key technical leader in their beautiful waterfront Benicia facility. This is a high-impact role where you will blend engineering expertise with practical shop-floor leadership to drive continuous improvement in quality, efficiency, and throughput.

What you will do:
Process Engineering, Continuous Improvement, and Documentation
  • Evaluate current production workflows and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and throughput.
  • Create, verify, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process specification documents for all production work cells.
  • Develop and implement workmanship standards; deliver training to production personnel to ensure consistent application.
  • Evaluate data from production operations to identify improvement opportunities and track sustained gains.
  • Lead or support root cause analysis (RCA) for production problems; develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide ongoing technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance to production supervisors and operators.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement throughout the facility.
  • Lead value stream mapping activities to identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Sustain improvement initiatives over time; monitor outcomes and adjust as needed to hold gains.
  • Develop and deliver training materials to support process changes and new procedures.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, accounting, and leadership on projects that impact facility performance.
Equipment & Technical Support
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for production equipment, including CNC machinery, equipment, and facility systems.
  • Support new equipment implementations from specification through installation, commissioning, and operator training.
  • Review and update preventive maintenance (PM) schedules and procedures; coordinate with operations to minimize downtime.
  • Act as initial point of contact for facility maintenance and equipment needs.
  • Analyze material flow and inventory practices; identify and implement opportunities for optimization.
  • Develop and maintain binders for SOPs & SDSs (Safety Data Sheets).
  • Support shop floor safety initiatives, including participation in weekly safety talks, hazard identification, and near-miss reporting.
Who you are:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a discrete manufacturing environment in a process engineering, manufacturing, engineering, industrial engineering, or similar technical role.
  • Demonstrated experience writing SOPs, work instructions, or process specifications.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing tools (5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping.)
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills (5-Why, Fishbone, or similar methodologies).
  • Ability to read and interpret production drawings, technical documents, and equipment manuals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable delivering training on the shop floor.
  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Working knowledge of EH&S practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Familiarity with ERP systems a plus.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety practices.
Compensation:

$100,000 to $125,000 base salary + bonus opportunity. Final compensation will be determined by the work experience, education, and/or skill level of the applicant and along with internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.
