Job summary

AeroVironment is offering a 12-week on-site Manufacturing Engineering Internship designed to give students hands-on experience in aerospace manufacturing. You will work with experienced engineers on projects applying Lean and Six Sigma to optimize processes and workflows, while gaining exposure to production systems and data analysis.

The program seeks motivated students or recent graduates with a minimum 3.0 GPA, willing to relocate for possible stipends covering relocation and housing.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical engineering or related field.
• Some coursework or experience in manufacturing, process improvement, or quality control.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of electro-mechanical manufacturing, technical drawings, and BOMs preferred.
• Proficient in MS Office; Visio, Minitab, or CAD tools are a plus.
• Willingness to travel to supplier sites up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Support and improve manufacturing processes focusing on efficiency and quality.
• Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
• Analyze production data (yields, capacity, cost, process capability) to identify enhancements.
• Document and standardize work hours, sequences, and assembly procedures.
• Generate and update work instructions and documentation for processes.
• Participate in root cause analysis and problem solving across materials, design, equipment, and personnel.
• Assist in capacity planning and factory layout design for efficiency.
• Support cost estimation for tooling, fixtures, and equipment.
• Collaborate with design teams on DFM and reliability analyses.
• Engage in cross-functional improvement projects with engineering and suppliers to improve cost, cycle time, and quality.
• Support DFMEA and PFMEA activities and provide manufacturing input to design concepts.
