Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Design Engineer is responsible for ensuring smooth workflow through the shop. This includes issuing clear work orders, promptly answering questions, scheduling work centers, and coordinating the flow of parts to work areas. The engineer also identifies process improvement opportunities and proposes solutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Create shop routers (work orders) based on engineering data, ensuring all necessary information is included. Follow up with shop floor associates to confirm instructions are understood.
  2. Load the shop schedule with tasks and hours based on released routers.
  3. Answer questions from shop associates, coordinating with engineering or other departments as needed, ensuring prompt and clear communication.
  4. Identify opportunities to standardize routers, replacing job-specific work instructions.
  5. Manage ‘shop jobs’ with minimal engineering input, taking a leadership role.
  6. Maintain a safe working environment, committing to safety excellence.
  7. Lead process and product improvement initiatives in the shop.
  8. Seek upgrades in technology and equipment to enhance efficiency and quality.
  9. Assist in interviewing and evaluating new hires.
  10. Coordinate with other departments and suppliers to meet project requirements on time.
  11. Participate in manufacturing team activities to meet goals.
  12. Provide excellent internal and external customer service.
  13. Perform other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution or a high school diploma/GED with at least 4 years of manufacturing experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience working with collaborative teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Experience as a process leader and with productivity tools is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Capability to bring assignments to successful completion.
  • Ability to anticipate and meet customer needs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Previous Experience:

  • At least 3 years in a design or manufacturing engineering role.

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Position based full-time in Pearland, TX.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work as required.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking English.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
