Job summary

Pratt & Whitney seeks an experienced automation engineer to design, develop, and deploy Ignition SCADA systems for hardware manufacturing. You will work with cross‑functional teams to define requirements and integrate Ignition with PLCs, HMIs, databases and other control systems.

Responsibilities include configuring Ignition, developing scripts, and designing control systems while ensuring safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced Degree in a related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Extensive experience in developing and integrating Ignition SCADA systems.
  • Strong expertise in controls hardware engineering, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and industrial networking.
  • Proven experience in machine automation within a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and process optimization.
  • Proficiency in programming languages used in automation and control systems (e.g., Python, Java, Ladder Logic).
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of leading successful automation projects.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with new product implementation, automation systems, and controls hardware.
  • Analyze processes to identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure automation solutions comply with safety standards and best practices.

Job description

What You Will Do

Design, develop, and deploy complex Ignition SCADA systems for the manufacture of hardware.

  • Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary teams including Manufacturing engineering, Material handling, Quality, and Operations to define requirements and specifications.
  • Integrate Ignition systems with PLCs, HMIs, databases, and other control systems in manufacturing.
  • Configure Ignition software to meet specific project requirements, including developing custom scripts and templates.
  • Design and implement control systems, including PLC programming, hardware selection, and network configuration.
  • Develop and test software solutions for manufacturing processes, ensuring seamless communication and control.
  • Design, develop, and optimize machine automation solutions for manufacturing processes.
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, Materials and Engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to new product implementation, automation systems, and controls hardware.
  • Analyze processes and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements through collaboration of various teams in manufacturing.
  • Ensure all automation solutions comply with safety standards and best practices in manufacturing.
  • Manage project timelines of work performed, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget.
Qualifications

Minimum academic and professional background required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced Degree in a related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Extensive experience in developing and integrating Ignition SCADA systems.

Role Summary

Onsite position in Asheville, North Carolina. U.S. citizenship required for access to sensitive information under the current program/contract. No security clearance is required.
